Mrs. Bonita LaVera Nelson

NELSON, Mrs. Bonita LaVera - Age 69, passed away Friday, January 7, 2022, at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Thursday, January 13, 2022, at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Rabon Turner, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Thursday. There will be no public viewing.Mrs. Bonita LaVera Clarke Nelson was born October 1, 1952 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of the late Fred Sr. and Modessa Reddick Clarke. She was educated in Flint Community Schools and was a member of the Flint Young Girls Track Club running sprints and winning gold medals in the Flint Canusa Games. Bonita graduated from Flint Northwestern High School, “Class of 1970. She also attended Western Michigan University. Bonita moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and Phoenix, Arizona before returning to Flint. Bonita was a faithful member of Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church participating in various ministries; Choir, Women’s Ministry, Christian Education Classes, until her health began to limit her activities. She continued listening to recorded messages and live stream services continuing her spiritual growth and strengthening her faith. She loved her family and her church family. Bonita also loved watching TV-Shows (cooking and westerns). She was skilled in sewing and typing and worked various jobs doing her career including working at General Motors Corporation SPO, Flint Community Schools and as an Apartment Manager in Phoenix, Arizona and Dayton Hudson’s Corp. Mrs. Bonita LaVera Clarke Nelson leaves to cherish her memory: son, Trevor Clarke; granddaughter, Zoe Clarke; 2 grandsons, Ari Clarke and Di-Michael Jones; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara (Willis Jr.) Lewis; 4 brothers, Minister Charles (Cynthia) Clarke Sr., all of Flint, Minister Dale (Daisy) Clarke Sr. of Detroit, MI, Fred (Melissa) Clarke Jr. of Pickering, OH and Pastor Dr. David (Michelle) Clarke of Kathleen GA; former sisters-in-law, Angela Boykin of Ohio and Valeria Clarke of Grand Blanc, MI; 6 aunts, Johnnie (Roger) Swift of Maryland, Pearl (John) Clark of Chicago, IL, Johnnie Jacques of Atlanta, GA, Bernice Clark of Chicago, IL, Judy Reddick of Maryland and Betty Burnett of Flint; 3 uncles, Pastor Alphonso (Yvonne) Clark of Tchula, MS; Dan Ford of Madison, MS and Bennie Clark of Chicago, IL; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Ray Nelson; parents, Fred Sr. and Modessa Reddick Clarke; grandparents; uncles, Pastor Edward Clark and Arthur Reddick; aunt, Carrie Ford; sister-in-law, Rhonda Clarke.
