FLOYD, Bishop Odis A. - Age 71, made his transition, Monday, November 28, 2011 at Hurley Medical Center. Sunday, December 4, 2011, Bishop Odis A. Floyd will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. at the funeral home, with Musical Celebration at 6 p.m. at New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church, 1035 E. Carpenter Rd. Service of Victory Celebration, Monday, December 5, 2011 at 6 p.m. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church, with Celebration of Life Service at 11 a.m. Bishop Paul S. Morton, Sr., Presiding Bishop Full Gospel Fellowship, officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Tuesday. Bishop Floyd will lie in state in the Sanctuary of New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church, Monday 12Noon-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Bishop Odis A. Floyd was born August 18, 1940 in Texarkana, Arkansas, the son of Deacon and Mother Morris C. and Ruby (Owens) Ross. He grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana, a proud product of “Stoney Hill.” Odis moved to Flint as a teenager to be reared by his beloved grandparents, Rev. L.W. and Ella Owens. Pastor Floyd attended Flint Northern High School before entering the military, attaining his diploma while serving in the U.S. Army and earning an Honorable Discharge. Upon returning to Flint, he reunited with his high school sweetheart, Brenda Copeland, whom he married March 2, 1963. He was employed with General Motors for a season. Rev. Odis A. Floyd was unanimously elected Pastor of New Jerusalem in November 1969, succeeding his grandfather. Considered one of the “founding fathers” of total Bible preaching and flowing in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, he changed the name of the church to the New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church. In October 1993, he was consecrated as 2nd Presiding Bishop of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship. Bishop Floyd oversaw several construction projects, including this worship complex in 1994, making him the pastor of the largest church in Genesee County. Ever the community leader, Bishop Floyd served in numerous areas and received countless awards and accolades. Producing a proud legacy, Bishop Odis A. Floyd leaves to cherish his memory: loving devoted wife of 48 years, Lady Brenda Floyd; son, Min. Anthony A. (Jamise) Floyd; 4 daughters, Nikki N. (Taran) McZee of Hanover, IN, Dr. Toyia Younger of Baltimore, MD, Charisse Jackson and Carmen Armstrong; beloved grandchildren, Kyle N. Floyd, Justin A. Floyd, both of Detroit, MI, Jarel L. Floyd, Angletta Frank, both of Atlanta, GA, and Anthony Odis Floyd; 2 brothers, Pastor Gilbert (Frances) Ross of Shreveport, LA and Rev. Oscar (Thomasina) Ross of Ft. Worth, TX; aunts, Catherine Johnson and Bessie M. Riley; sister-in-law, Katherine Britt; brother-in-law, Leonard Copeland of Springfield, MA; a host of nieces, nephews and godchildren including Ann (Eld. Patrick) Sanders, Angela (Victor) Barnett, Debra (Harold) Morgan, both of Shreveport, LA, Michael (Gloria) Johnson, Lydia Randle of Houston, TX and Elder A. Jeffrey (Arjetta) LaValley; a host of other relatives and friends including his “BUD”, Bishop M.C. Akins, and the New Jerusalem Church Family. Bishop Floyd was preceded in death by his beloved son, Leonard Lamar Floyd (June 4, 1983); parents, Dea. Morris C. and Ruby Ross; sister, Margie Hilson; grandparents, Rev.
