Wright, Mrs. Birdie B.- Age 84, passed away Friday, May 21, 2021 at her residence. Family hour 7:30 AM Saturday, May 29, 2021 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 8:00 AM Pastor Ezra Tillman, officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 7:30 AM Saturday. Mrs. Wright will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday with the family present from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. Mrs. Birdie B. Wright was born on June 8, 1936 in Mason, Tennessee, she grew up and worked on her family’s farm, which was passed down from her great-grandfather, Hillery Wattswood Key, through five generations. Birdie graduated from Gailor High School where she was a member of the Dance Team. After graduation, she moved to Detroit, MI and later to Flint, Michigan to pursue her dreams of a better life. Birdie retired from GM-Delphi West, a division of General Motors Corporation after many years of loyal service. She was a member of UAW Local #659. Birdie was one of the earliest members of First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church of Flint where she served with love and devotion for over 60 years. She has worn many hats at First Trinity. Birdie has been a Hostess on the Kitchen Committee, a Silver Liner, an avid Sunday School Member, an original Member of the Inspirational Choir and a Mistress of Ceremony for the Church’s Anniversary. She has also been a member of the Flint Zeta Amicae Auxiliary, a service organization. Birdie enjoyed traveling, shopping, socializing and being a Grandmother. She was an independent, outgoing and fun loving person who knew no strangers. Many of her neighbors and coworkers became lifelong friends. Mrs. Birdie B. Wright leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Brenda Joyce Wright (Boe) Glasschild; granddaughter, Leslie Jade Calypso; grandson, Boe Benjamin Glasschild, all of Flint; brother, Rev. Vernon T. (JoAnn) White of Akron, OH; 2 sisters, Odessa White Rose of Nashville, TN and Ethel White (Richard) Hayes of Ripley, TN; 6 nieces, Marilyn Johnson Locke, Yvette White, Tricia White (Eurston) Luellen, all of Memphis, TN, Saundra Rose (Earl) Hunt, Kelda Rose Altidor, both of Nashville, TN and Janice White (Richard) Pitts of Phoenix, AZ; 4 nephews, Shelvie Rose Jr. of Detroit, MI, Deron (Cynthia) Hayes of Memphis, TN, Rev. Alton Wayne (Victoria) Hayes of Nashville, TN and Vernon White II of Akron, OH; 12 great-nieces; 12 great-nephews including Rev. Kenney E. Yarborough of Milwaukee, WI; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her parents, Marion Leon and Isabella White; brother, Marion C. White; sister, Elizabeth White Johnson; 3 nieces, Geneva B. White Jones, Rosalyn Johnson Stewart and special niece, Delores Rose Hayes; and nephew, Leonard Hayes Sr. The family would like to express special thanks to all of Birdie’s caregivers, Nurse Michelle and McLaren Hospice Team, Ruby Gill, Paula Edwards and Cynthia Hawthorne; neighbors, family and friends including, Jan Marie Arbor, Barbara Beasley, Bea and Tommy Horton, Delores Harris, Jackie Johnson, Linnette Phillips and many others too numerous to mention.
