Mrs. Betty Jean Webster

WEBSTER, Mrs. Betty Jean - Age 79, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at her residence. Funeral service 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 6, 2021 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Pastor Wallace Hill III officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 11:00 AM Tuesday. Mrs. Webster will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Monday. Mrs. Betty Jean (Thomas) Webster was born July 8, 1941 in Winchester, Arkansas. She was the first-born child of the 13 children born from the union of Samuel J. and Veola E. Thomas. Betty, her sister Lottie and her parents moved to Flint, Michigan in 1947 after Samuel gained employment with Buick Motor Company, a division of General Motors Corporation. She attended Flint Community Schools and later obtained her GED after marriage and raising her children. Betty married her first love, Cornelius Dixon on July 7, 1958 and together they had six children, Denise, Felice, Cornelius Jr., Francetta, Chelene and Kamela. She was baptized at an early age and deeply devoted to her faith in God and she always accepted His will without question because she knew He could not make mistakes. Until her illness would no longer allow her, she remained an active member of Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Wallace Hill III. Betty worked for Chevrolet Manufacturing (in the hole), a division of General Motors Corporation and was a member of UAW Local #598 and retired from there in 1993. This is where she met her second love, Theodore Webster. They fell in love, dated and finally eloped to Las Vegas, Nevada in June of 1999. Everyone knew Mrs. Betty (as she was affectionately known by all) was one of God’s special angels. After your first meeting with her, it felt like you had known her all your life and she welcomed everyone into her life with that big, infectious smile and genuine warmth without any judgements. She always wanted hugs and kisses as a greeting and would pretend to be offended and/or upset if you didn’t hug her first. Her laughter could bring the sunshine into any dark day. Aunt Betty was the matriarch of the Thomas family and the younger generation of Thomas’s knew their Aunt Betty and Grandmother was their bona fide confidante and they knew their secrets surely followed her right into Heaven. Mrs. Betty Jean Webster leaves to cherish her memory: 5 daughters, Denise Weatherspoon of Atlanta, GA, Felice, Chelene Monique (Gabe) Parker, Francetta Richardson and Kamela Dixon; son, Cornelius Dixon Jr., all of Flint; 5 step-children; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Romi Jean Jones of Grand Blanc, MI, Jacqueline Wilson and Tonie Jean Thomas, both of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins including the Shaw, Moore and King families of Detroit, MI; a host of other relatives and friends including best friend, Annette Cooper and special friends, Ann Jones and Marilyn Smith. Mrs. Webster was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Webster; the father of her children, Cornelius Dixon; grandchildren, Cornelius Dixon III and Cortney Weatherspoon; parents, Samuel and Veola Thomas; grandparents, Timothy and Willie Mae King; sisters, Lottie Jones, Wilma, Deborah and Tonya Thomas; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Jones and Robert Wilson; and special son, Alfred Holland Jr. Kamela would like to give a special heartfelt thank you to Sheinta Poplar, Cheasha McClain Anita Jones and Terrance Greene for their unrelenting support during those most difficult days.
