HODGE, Ms. Betty - Age 78, passed away Monday, August 14, 2023, at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, August 19, 2023, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Phil Hodge officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd., Burton, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:00 AM Saturday. Ms. Hodge will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday with family present from 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. Ms. Betty Louise Hodge passed away peacefully at Hurley Medical Center on August 14, 2023. Betty was born on November 19, 1944, in Plain Dealing, Louisiana, the daughter of Fleming and Mary Hodge. Betty grew up with a full house of brothers and sisters whom she adored and enjoyed spending time with. As a young lady, Betty learned how to cook and bake by helping her mother prepare meals for the family. She enjoyed school, singing in the choir, playing games and making dolls/doll clothes from fabric remnants. After high school, Betty moved from Plain Dealing, Louisiana to Flint, Michigan where she was married and began her family with three children. In the early stages of Betty’s new life in Flint, she was reminded of a science teacher’s advice in school that she would make a great nurse one day. These insightful words and encouragement stirred up something in Betty and this is where she made the decision to attend Mott Community College to obtain her Associate Degree in Nursing. Upon completion of college, Betty worked as a Registered Nurse, throughout the State of Michigan. She held various positions in the nursing program, from staff nurse, charge nurse and supervisory positions. Betty fulfilled a vision that became a reality. Betty’s places of employment included Genesee County Community Mental Health, Training and Treatment Innovations, Hope Network Clarkston, MI, New Hope, Clinton Valley Regional Center, Oakdale Regional Center Lapeer, Caro Regional Medical Center Caro, Saginaw Osteopathic Hospital and Flint General Hospital Flint, MI. Betty continued to seek self-improvement and went on to obtain her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Michigan. During Betty’s journey in life, she was led to the Christian faith where she became a devoted member of Freedom Temple Ministries COGIC. Betty’s love for the Lord, encouraged her children and numerous family/friends to accept Christ as their personal savior. Betty held many positions in the church to include being a missionary, Sunday School teacher and choir member. She enjoyed going to yearly Christian conventions with her church family all across the country. Betty loved beautiful things from clothes, jewelry, furniture and flowers. Betty’s hobbies throughout life was a love of gardening, flowers, needlepoint, cooking, puzzles, sewing, going to the movies and watching TV Land. She also enjoyed traveling and had the wonderful opportunity to go on a Caribbean cruise (for those who went with her smile), Paris, Germany and other parts of Europe. Ms. Betty Louise Hodge leaves to cherish her beautiful memory, three children, Jenna Y. Holman of Dallas, Texas, Abron (Carmita) Andrews Jr. of Flint, Michigan, Lanora (Jim Jr.) Cooper of Burton, Michigan), eight grandchildren, Kyesha and Kyle Holman Jr. both of Dallas, TX, Brittany Andrews of Rochester Hills, MI, Kalin Ware of Flint, MI, Ryen Cooper of Atlanta, GA, Gabrielle Cooper of Burton, MI, Cheaunie Lewis of Flushing, MI and Ricky Davenport of Las Vegas, NV, five great-grandchildren, Novell Holman of Dallas, TX. Jayce, Shannon and Lauren Ware, all of Flint, MI and Kyimoni Lewis of Flushing, MI, two sisters, Barbara Johnson and Margaret (Larkin) Muwwakkil both from Flint, Michigan and one brother, Cleauther Elamin, of Lansing, MI, two sisters-in-law’s, Edna Hodge and Shirley Hodge both of Flint, MI. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. Betty’s special friends are: Jeanette McWilliams, Betty Mullins, Helen Boyce-Williams, and Sandra Williams. Betty was preceded in death by her parents: Fleming Sr. and Mary Hodge, sister: Clover Williams, brothers: Flenroy Hodge, Roy (Katherine) Hodge, Johnnie Hodge, and Gene Hodge Sr., son in law, Kyle Holman Sr. and sister-in-law Winnie Hodge.
