Mrs. Bettie Ruth Jones-Tyson

JONES-TYSON, Mrs. Bettie - Age 91, passed away Monday, June 9, 2025 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 18, 2025 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Mon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment Flint Memorial Park, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy, Mt Morris. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the chapel 10:00 AM Wednesday. Mrs. Jones-Tyson will lie in state in the chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Tuesday, with family present from 3:00PM-6:00PM. Ms. Bettie Ruth Jones-Tyson was born May 3, 1934, in Caney, Arkansas, the son of Otto Dennis and Queenie Tyson. Ms. Tyson moved to Flint, Michigan in 1955. She began her career with A C Spark Plug in 1964, a division of General Motors Corporation and retired after 30 years of service. Bettie Ruth accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church serving as a Sunday School Teacher, on the Nurses Guild, and the Security-in-Ministry. Bettie Ruth, otherwise known as the “Cake Lady” loved and took care of her family and friends through baking cakes and teacakes which were shipped throughout USA. She is most famous for her 6 Flavored-Pound Cake. Bettie Ruth has also sold Watkins Products for over 40 years. Her favorite past time was shopping online at QVC. Bettie Ruth loved traveling south and made her last trip on May 23, 2025. She made sure everyone knew she had a good time, including the medical staff at Hurley Medical Center. Bettie Ruth will be most remembered for her honest opinions, because what came up came out, being a second mother and grandmother, her listening ear, morning, noon, and night, and her salmon croquettes and biscuits. Also, her saying, “I am fine as wine and getting better with time.” Ms. Bettie R. Jones-Tyson leaves to cherish her memory: son, Clifford O. Harvey; daughter, Deborah J. (Reginald) Gillard, all of Flint, MI; 2 special sons, Little James Shepard of Wake Village, TX, and Carlos Shepard of Texarkana, AR; 10 grandchildren, Shunta Love of Flushing MI, Quawn Green of Pontiac, MI, Kathrina (Christopher) Rich of Swartz Creek, MI, Toccara Westbrook of Flint, MI, Keith (Jessica) Harden of Flint, MI, Joseph, Joshua and Javon Harvey of Flint MI, Hakim (Stephenie) Gillard of Burton, MI, and Seirra Harvey of WI,18 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Clavern (Gabby) Tyson-Bey of Pontiac, MI, Lloyd David Tyson of Atlanta, TX, and Jimmy (Sharon) Tyson of Flint; a host of special nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Mildred Tyson of Detroit, MI, Mary Ruth Brown (special sister/friend) and Ernestine Gray; a host of other relatives and friends. Ms. Jones-Tyson was preceded in death by her parents, Otto Dennis and Queenie Tyson; sisters, Laura Emma, Thelma McKinney, and Marvis (Tiny) Mitchell; brothers, Odis, Odee, and Phynis Tyson.
