JOHNSON, Mrs. Bertha Sue - Age 55, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Avalon Hospice. Family hour 10:30AM Thursday, March 10, 2011 from the Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 317 E. Hamilton, with funeral service at 11AM. Rev. Clarence Courts, Sr. officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Thursday. Mrs. Johnson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 2PM-8PM Wednesday. Ms. Bertha Sue Johnson was born January 9, 1056 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Olen and Ruben Johnson. In her younger days, she grew up as a member of Dozier Memorial CME Church. Bertha was a member of New Testament Christian Church under the leadership of Pastor Clarence J. Courts, Sr. She was also a member of the Christian Women Fellowship Senior Choir and head of the Church Fashion Show Department. Bertha graduated from Flint Northern High School and attended Ferris State University in Big Rapids, MI, majoring in Culinary Arts/Dietary Specialist and where she was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Little Sister Sorority and was nominated as Queen of the Phi Beta Sigma Little Sister Sorority, Inc. Bertha furthered her studies in Business Management at Jordan College in Flint. She worked at Chevrolet V-8 Engine Piston Department in Flint. Bertha had her own business in Catering/Cake decorating. She loved reading her favorite scripture: Psalm 91 in the Bible, cooking crocheting, swimming, ice and roller skating. Bertha was a loving and caring mother to all her children, charitable to all, open her hearts to whomever in need of shelter or just a friend. Her favorite song was “Greatest Love of All.” She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Felicia R. Johnson of Jacksonville, FL; 2 sons, George White III of Columbia, MO and George Thomas Strater III of Flint; Norma (Lester) Norman of Detroit, MI, Loretta Green of Kansas City, KS, Catherine S. Miller of Flint, Valerie L. Johnson Sharp of Rochester, NY and Mary A. Johnson of Flint; 2 brothers, Willie Jackson of Rochester, NY and Phillip Eugene Johnson, Sr. of Flint; goddaughter, Kalita Miller of Flint; 3 aunts, Marjorie Walton of Warren, AR, Louise Rhodes of Wilmar, AR and Ethel Lee McLemore of Pine Bluff, AR; great-aunt, Velma Bailey of Flint; sister-in-law, Bonnie Johnson of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including George White II, George Thomas Strater II and Educator/friend, Mrs. Hayes. Ms. Johnson was preceded in death by her daughter, Natalie Ruben Johnson; parents, Olen and Ruben Johnson, Sr.; brother, Olen Johnson, Jr.; and special friend, Sereatha Hardman.
