CHAPMAN, Mrs Bertha - Age 69, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2007 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 12:30PM Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Greater Paradise Baptist Church, 4236 Beryl St., with funeral service commencing at 1:30PM. Pastor Michael Gipson officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12:30PM Saturday. Mrs. Chapman will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Friday. Mrs. Bertha Mae Chapman was born July 29, 1937 in Newton, Mississippi, the daughter of Major and Louise Gammage. Mrs. Chapman was a resident of Flint, MI. She attended Lawrence High School in Newton, MS. Bertha loved reading the Bible. She also enjoyed being a foster parent, spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, fishing, and talking to her daughter and best friend, "Bookie" on the phone. Mrs. Bertha Mae Chapman leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Earnest C. Chapman of Flint; daughter, Bertha (Hosey) Williams, Jr.; 2 god daughters, Crastashia Martin and Aquila Simpson; god son, Thomas Martin; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Berry of Detroit; brother, Major Gammage of Detroit; aunt, Bessie Mae Gammage of Syracuse, NY; 2 cousins, Catherine Wash and Desireae? Coleman both of Flint; 3 sisters-in-law, Mildred (James) Rouser, Lee Jewel Chapman and Christeen Cox; 2 brothers-in-law, Willie (Mae) Chapman and J.D. (Edna) Chapman; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends including special cousins, Mae Jewel Chapman and Lee Jewel Chapman; special friend, Robert Brown. Mrs. Chapman was preceded in death by her parents, Major and Louise Gammage; son, Darris Chapman; sister, Annie Pearl Hardy; nephews, Anthony Berry and Johnnie Gammage; uncle, Edward Gammage; mother and father-in-law, Earnest and Zeola Chapman; brothers-in-law, Johnnie Lee Chapman and Mack Cox. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Gibson and Greater Paradise Baptist Church family, Rev. Lugene (Thelma) Maxie, Charlotte Stacker and the Chapman family.
