Mr. Bernard Gibbs

GIBBS, Mr. Bernard - Age 68, passed away Friday, May 27, 2016 at Norfolk Sentara General Hospital, Norfolk, VA. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2016 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Frederick Wilkes officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Mr. Gibbs will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday. Mr. Bernard Gibbs was born December 21, 1947 in Columbia, North Carolina, the son of John and Geneva (Walker) Gibbs. He was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Bernard attended P.W. Moore High School in Elizabeth City, NC. His hobbies included painting, walking, sports and spending time with his family. Bernard was very outspoken, but kind hearted at the same time. He never met a stranger. Mr. Bernard Gibbs leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Alean Eliza Gibbs of Flint; daughter, Rhu-Donna M. Hollins (Marvin Tate); son, Dason (Dawn) Hollins, Sr.; 8 grandchildren, Tasheanna, DeVeon and MarQuiseha Raspberry, Jamontae Wheeler, D’Courion Jamerson, JaDasia Hollins, Dason Hollins, Jr. and Destiny Raspberry; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Linda Gibbs, Phyllis Brickhouse and Shelia Gibbs; 2 brothers, Cleon (Joette) Gibbs of Raleigh, NC and William Gibbs of Elizabeth City, NC; 5 nieces; 16 nephews; 3 sisters-in-law, Juanita Cleaves of Flint, Monica (David) Harper of Wallace, LA and Belinda (Rev. Robert) Dawkins of Woodville, MS; brother-in-law, Raymond Hinton of Elizabeth City, NC; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, the entire Redmond and Montgomery families. Mr. Gibbs was preceded in death by his parents, John and Geneva Gibbs; sister, Margie Hinton; mother and father-in-law, Charles and Vahness James; sisters-in-law, Charlotte James and Shirley James Coates; brothers-in-law, Leonard and Michael Jackson, and George Brickson, Sr. The family would like to express special thanks to nurses and doctors of Sentar Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, VA, McLaren-Flint nurses and doctors, and Genesys Health Park of Grand Blanc, MI.
