Mr. Bernard Boose

BOOSE, Mr. Bernard - Age 71, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023, at his residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church, 1035 E. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Alfred Harris Jr., officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Tuesday. Mr. Boose will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Monday with family present from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. Mr. Bernard Boose, age 71, of Flint, Michigan peacefully passed away at his residence on April 22, 2023 surrounded by loved ones. Bernard was born on June 25, 1951 to Norman Garnet & Mahalia Boose in Alexandria, Louisiana. His father moved their family to Flint by train when he was 2 years old. He graduated from Beecher High School in 1971, where he engaged in several sports including football, basketball and track. Bernard attended Ferris State University where he played football. He went on to play semi-pro football for the Flint Sabres and basketball for the City AA Basketball League. Bernard worked at the Genesee County Juvenile Justice Center, as well as, Bryan Middle School as a Basketball Coach and Security Guard. He attended Mott Community College where he earned his Iron Workers Certificate and became a Journeyman Iron Worker. After earning his certification, Bernard worked for Iron workers’ Local #25 of Troy, MI until he retired after 20 years of service. He was passionate about his career as an Iron Worker and loved what he did for a living. So much that he taught his son and grandsons the trade. He loved sports, traveling, and spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren. In 1969, he met his loving & devoted wife of 44 years, Linda Kay Boose. Mr. Bernard Boose leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Linda Kay Boose; 4 children; Jamar (Kalita) Boose of Flint, LaShona Boose of Stockbridge, GA, Ondria (Gerard) Tims of Flint, and Richard (Sharmona) Rivers of Beaufort, SC; god-daughter, Deidra Wooten; 2 sisters, Norma Jean (Donald) Legrone of Flint/Arizona and Carolyn Sue Mayo of Mt. Morris, MI; 6 sisters-in-law, Marsha (George) Hill of Grand Blanc, Dr. JoAnn (Rock) Odom of Ypsilanti, Freda Turner of Flint, Sharon (Lee’ Lend Williams) Marshall of Burton, MI, Veronica Mays Simon of Mt. Morris, MI, and Barbara Boose of Livonia; 2 brothers-in-law, Douglas Scott Marshall of Southfield and Freddie (Debra) Marshall of Mt. Morris, MI; 11 grandchildren, Dominique, Darquan, De’Zhane’, Danayah all of Georgia, Nautica of Lansing, MI, Bianca, Mariah, Katyra, Denaj’za, all of Flint, Jasmine of Beaufort, SC, Janae and Jada, both of Flint; 7 great grandchildren, Hayden of Mt. Morris, MI, Madison, Deliala, Mila, Kyrell all of Georgia, Asa of Flint and Jha’mi of Lansing, MI. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins including special cousins, Helen Hayman, Valina Hall Walker, Johnny Monge and Tommy “Tuffy” Hall; a host of friends including special friends, Billy Anthony, George & Cheri Mays, Tony Norris, Rick Taube, Arnold “Dee Dee” Thomas. Bernard was preceded in death by his father, Norman Garnet Boose; mother, Mahalia Boose; mother and father-in law, Edward & Mildred Marshall; brother, Harrison Lee Boose; brother-in-law, Lawrence Mayo; and niece, Shuniesa “Niecee” Mayo. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Henry Hagenstein, Dr. Uday Kanadi, MD, Promedica Hospice Care, The Blade Family, god-daughter, Deidra Wooten, Freda Turner, Rosalind Crain, son Richard Rivers, daughter Ondria Tims, Pastor Alfred “AJ” Harris Jr. and the New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church family.
