ALEXANDER, Deacon Bernard - Age 77, was a true soldier in God's army, he made his transition home, Monday, October 26, 2009 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral Service commencing 12Noon Monday, November 2, 2009 at Greater Emanuel Temple Church, 1117 E. Genesee St., Pastor Melvin Davis officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12Noon Monday. Deacon Alexander will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10AM-4PM Sunday. Afterwhich, Deacon Alexander will be taken to Greater Emanuel Temple Church for homegoing service from 6-7:30PM. Deacon Bernard Alexander was born May 17, 1932 in McComb, Mississippi, the son of Johnny and Alma (Jacob) Alexander. Deacon Alexander was a resident of Flint since 1956. He retired in 1990 with 34 years of seniority. Deacon Alexander was united in marriage to Annie Jean Lynch on February 1, 1975. He received the Holy Ghost on December 15, 1974 and was a faithful member of Greater Emmanuel Temple Church since that glorious day. Deacon Alexander was a deacon for 21 years and served on many capacities, his last being a member of the singing group, “Brothers”. He loved Sunday School, Bible Studies and the young people. Deacon Alexander ministry in life was visiting the hospitals and nursing homes, praying and encouraging the sick. He was proud of his family and took pride in never hearing his parents argue or use foul language. His favorite scriptures were Mark 16:16 and Acts 1:8. Deacon Bernard Alexander leaves to cherish his memory: son, Fred Alexander of Camden, AR; 4 daughters, Beverly (L.C.) Johnson of Springfield, LA, Jacqueline Dixon, Eartha Logan, Belle (Charlie) Bell, Jr., all of Flint; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Geneva Drake of McComb, MS and Johnnie Lee (John L) Clayton of Harvery, IL; devoted sisters-in-law, Shirley (Raymond) Wilson and Dorothy Alexander; many nieces, nephews and friends including special friends, Elder Horace Strozier, Faye Hayes, Berniece Owens, Bro. and Sis. Gilmore, Aretha Cooper, GCCARD and the entire Greater Emmanuel Temple Church family. Deacon Alexander was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Jean Alexander; grandson, Tyrone Dixon; parents, Johnny and Alma (Jacob) Alexander; brother, Jessie James Alexander; sister, Ethelenen Issac; nephews, Dallas Alexander and Jeffery Harris; sons-in-law, Etienne Logan and Willie Dixon, Sr.; sister-in-law, Ralphene Collier; and brothers-in-law, George Issac, John Henderson, Wiley and Calvin Thomas. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Hurley Medical Center entire 4th floor ICU doctors and nurses and the Greater Emmanuel Temple Church family. God Bless You All.
