DOBSON, Mr. Berlin W. - Age 93, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2019 at his residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Monday, April 15, 2019 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1811 Seymore Avenue, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Father Philip Schmitter, officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:00 AM Monday. Mr. Dobson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 10:00 AM-6:00 PM Sunday. Mr. Dobson was Honorably Discharged from the United States Navy. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Christ the King Pantry or Building Fund. Mr. Berlin W. Dobson was born January 19, 1926 in Washington, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Joseph and Susan (Wootton) Dobson, born the sixth of ten children. Berlin lived in Washington, PA until the family moved to Harrisburg, PA where he graduated from William Penn Sr. High School. On April 14, 1944 he was drafted into the United States Navy serving during World War II until May 24, 1946 when he was discharged at the rank of M/MM/3C. During his military time he attended Hampton Institute receiving a certificate for Internal Engine and Diesel Engineering. He received numerous medals and ribbons during his time of service. After his discharge from the Navy, he moved to Flint, Michigan working at General Motors at Buick for eight years. On June 1, 1954 he started working for the United States Post Office where he rose through the ranks of Station Supervisor and Postmaster. Berlin married the love of his life Constance E. Mollay on June 3, 1950. To this union three children were born, Gary Michael, Kim Alan and Karen Marie. Berlin was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church serving as the Council President, Chairman of the Building Committee for the old and present church. He has been a member of the Urban League, and the N.A.A.C.P., the Friday Bingo Group and was the first black president of the National Association of Postal Supervisors. Berlin loved bowling and he was an avid golfer. Mr. Berlin W. Dobson leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 69 years, Constance E. of Flint; daughter, Karen (Wendall Johnson) of Grand Blanc; son, Kim Dobson of Flint; brother, Warren Theodore Dobson; five sisters-in-law, Dorothy Dobson, Emma Dobson, Dianne Johnson, Janet Mollay and Monica Latham; special grandson, Michael Dobson (Chawn Greene) Flint; other grandchildren, Delise Johnson of Arlington, TX, Kelley Brown (Melissa) of Norwalk, CA, Marcus (Kimberly Peterson) Dobson and Alan Morris both of Flint, Avonne (Alan) Bogan of Fort Worth, TX, Stephanie Johnson of Washington D.C., Brianna (John) Grier of Arlington, TX; twenty-two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Berlin was preceded in death by: his parents, Joseph and Susan; son, Gary; sister, Laura; brothers, William, Curtis, Julius, Giles, Calvin, Orvil and Thurston. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Kindred Hospice Staff, Nicole Thomas and Lazarre Johnson.
