Grundy, Senior Deacon Benny D. - Age 81, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at VA Hospital in Saginaw Michigan. Celebration of Life Service 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2012 at Pentecostal Temple Church of God In Christ, 2320 Canniff Street. Family hour 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Jackson Memorial Temple Church of God in Christ, 3155 W. Carpenter Rd., with homegoing service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor James P. Sanders officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 a.m. Saturday. Senior Deacon Grundy will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 noon – 4:00 p.m. Friday, afterwhich Senior Deacon Grundy will be taken to Pentecostal Temple Church of God In Christ for Celebration of Life Service from 6-9 p.m. Benny Daniel Grundy was born May 18, 1931 in Memphis, Tennessee, to Leslie (Lula) Henry and Algenor Grundy. Benny “Tootsie” met the love of his life, Mae Frances Jamerson, they were married 53 years and to their union was born 14 children. During his 20 year tenure in the U. S. Army Benny achieved the rank of Sergeant 1st. Class and was awarded numerous medals. After retirement Benny worked as a Printer with the Flint Journal and he also worked as a Transportation Supervisor for the Flint Board of Education. Benny accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior under the leadership of Pastor James Paul Sanders, Sr. He leaves to cherish his incredible life, unconditional love and rich legacy: 12 children, 6 daughters, Frances Yvonne (Charles) Allen-Reid, Carolyn Wells, Linda, Mary and Veronica Hill and Franzetta (Pastor Keith) Ivy; 6 sons, Elder George (Carolyn), Deacon Charles (Susan), Benny D. (Lisa), Pastor Brian D. (Lillian), Gary (Karima) and Arthur (Lisa) Grundy; 1 brother, Arthur Grundy, Sr.; 1 sister, Barbara Ann Grundy; 6 sisters-in-law; 8 brothers-in-law; 1 aunt, Sadie Mae Burtiss; 50 grandchildren; 35 great-grand children; 25 great-great-grand children; a host of nieces and nephews including special nephew and niece, Artie and Janice and their families; a host of great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; special friends, Lieutenant Jim Hockstein; church families, Pastor James and Mother Carolyn Sanders and the entire Pentecostal Temple COGIC family and Pastor Brian and Lillian Grundy and the Greater New Bethel COGIC family. Deacon Grundy was preceded in death by his wife, Mother Mae Frances Grundy; parents, Algenor Grundy and Leslie Henry; sons, Benny Jr. and Andrew T. Grundy; in-laws, Walter, Willie, Eric, Joseph, Donzella Jamerson, Sterline Jones and Rose Grundy; and niece, Debra Grundy-Chambers. The family would like to express special thanks to his caregivers, Rhonda Wells and granddaughter, Paula Berry.
