Mrs. Beatrice Staten

STATEN, Mrs. Beatrice - Age 87, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Regency of Grand Blanc - Grand Blanc, MI. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2 p.m. Pastor Kenneth L. Stewart officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Staten will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12 p.m. - 8 p.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Beatrice (Hulon) Staten was born on September 1, 1927 in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late William and Vella (Branch) Hulon. She departed this life on August 30, 2015. Beatrice accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age. She married Elmo Harris, and to that union, one son was born, Robert “Bob” Harris. After relocating to Flint, Michigan she was later wed to Mr. Fred Staten. Mrs. Staten joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend J.C. Court where she was a faithful member. She served as an officer of the Floral Club until her health failed. Beatrice received her formal education in the Memphis School System. She was employed at McLaren Regional Medical Center as a Nurse’s Assistant, retiring after 25 years of service. “Bea,” as she was affectionately known, enjoyed baking cakes and various other pastries, fishing, traveling and just good ole conversation. Mrs. Beatrice (Hulon) Staten leaves to cherish her memories: 2 sons, Robert (Marva) Harris of Flint, and Reverend Willie (Wanda) Mosby of Mt. Morris, MI; 2 granddaughters, Cheryl Ross of Flint, and Joshett Head of Memphis, TN; 4 grandsons, Willie, Jr. of Detroit, MI, Michael V of Grand Rapids, MI, Bryan Mosby of Illinois, and Kevin (Teresa) McKenzie of Flint; great-grandsons, Cedric Malone of Flint, Seandre Harris Salaam and Katai Harris of Flint Twp., MI; grandson-in-law, Ibrahim Salaam of Flint Twp., MI; sister, Esterine Reed of Memphis, TN; sister-in-law, Pearl Andrews of Cincinnati, OH; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive including dearest friends, Ms. Mallailieu Vinson, Ms. Ruby Jewell Hairston, Ms. Mammie Holden, Ms. Evina Walker, Mr. Rice and Ms. Juanita; and personal assistant, Ms. Sylvia Holden. Mrs. Staten was preceded in death by: husband, Fred Staten; granddaughter, Seandra R. Harris-Salaam of Flint; parents, William and Vella Hulon; 2 sisters, Etta Curry and Clara Taylor; and brother, James Hulon, all of Memphis, TN. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Abdullah Raffee and staff, McLaren Medical Center and the Regency at Grand Blanc. The Best God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered “Come to Me.” With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A Golden Heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.
