LEE, Mrs. Beatrice A. - Age 81, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10AM Monday, March 31, 2008 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 424 Kennel Worth St., with funeral service commencing at 11AM, Dr. Roy I. Greer, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Monday. Mrs. Lee will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10AM-8PM Sunday. Beatrice A. Lee was born on December 8, 1926 in Ramer, Alabama to James and Mattie Arrington. She departed this life on March 22, 2008. Beatrice received salvation in Jesus Christ at an early age. Beatrice resided in Ramer until the age of nine at which time the family moved to Montgomery, AL. She attended Carver High School until she moved to Haines City, FL where she lived with her sister, Willie Mae Henderson. There she graduated from Oakland High School. It was in Haines City that she met her husband to be, George R. Lee. They were married in Kissimmee, FL in March of 1943. After George's return from serving in the Army, the couple lived in East St. Louis, IL. They eventually settled in 1948 in Flint, MI, where she joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church. It was always apparent to those who knew her, that family was Beatrice's chosen career. She was among the first Suburban Moms. She was an active member of the Stewart Elementary PTA, where 5 of 6 of her children attended. She was instrumental in the integration of her children and other local public schools. She was a participant in car pools and of her Neighborhood Block Club. In fulfilling her role as matriarch, she was a constant source of loving support to her children and grandchildren. Her family knew she would have an open ear for any problems they brought to her. She was gentle natured, always having kind words of encouragement in the advice she gave. She was loved and adored by her family and will be greatly missed. Beatrice leaves to cherish her loving memory: her husband, George Russell Lee, Sr.; five children, Jeroline Lee Curry, Shirley A. (Mustafa) Muhammed, Donna Lee-Hennings, Kenneth I. Lee, and Wendie D. (Marion) Jenkins; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; surviving sisters, Addie Mae Patterson and Doris A. Caffey; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lee was preceded in death by her son, George Russell, Jr.; grandson, Michael Lee Curry; and great granddaughter, Nichelle Jones.
