HOLMES, Mrs. Beatrice “Ma” - Age 85, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at her son’s residence. Family hour 10:30 a.m., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Promise Tabernacle Church, 815 W. Carpenter Rd. Pastor Frederick L. Flowers, Sr. officiating. Interment Sunset Hill Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Holmes will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Friday with the family present from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. to receive friends. Mrs. Beatrice (Hadnot) Holmes was born on September 29, 1924 in Colfax, Louisiana the daughter of John and Pinkie (Mills) Hadnot and was educated in the Colfax Schools. She professed a hope in Christ and was baptized at an early age at Calvary Baptist Church and in her latter years she was a member of Promise Tabernacle Church formerly Golden Leaf Baptist Church. She leaves in God’s Care: 2 daughters, Patricia (Nathaniel) Poole of Sacramento, CA and Velma (Elder Amel) Quillin of Houston, TX; 2 sons, Elder Hickman (Gwendolyn) Holmes of Flushing, MI and Andrew (Laverne) Holmes of Flint; 13 grandchildren, Dana (Raisa) Holmes, Monica L. Holmes, all of Flint, Jeffery D. Holmes of Detroit, MI, Erika Pitts of Indianapolis, IN, Angela (Lon) Pitts-Williams and Anthony D. Pitts, all of Flint, Marcus Holmes, Kendreth Holmes, both of Atlanta, GA, Brandon Holmes of Grand Blanc, MI, Keith (Geraldine) Quillin, Rosalind Quillin, Camille Quillin and Amel Quillin III, all of Houston, TX; 23 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; 1 sister, Alma Hadnot of Saginaw, TX; special niece, Dorothy Lee Boyd of Shreveport, LA; special nephews, Alvin Holmes of Detroit, MI and Glenn Lee Holmes of Hartford, CT an host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends including special grandchildren, DeMario Sherley, Joe Willie Burnett, Mandya Burnett and LaRita Burnett, all of Flushing, MI, the Roland, Blade and Richmond families. Mrs. Holmes was preceded in death by her husband, Hickman Holmes, Sr.; daughter, Linda “Gayle” Pitts; great-grandson, Sharod Denzel Holmes; and her parents. The family wishes to express a very special thanks to her loving and devoted care giver, Lisa Stone.
