VANCE, Mrs. Beatrice Carol (Hairston) - Age 46, of Redford, MI, went home to be with the Lord September 18, 2010, surrounded by her loving family after a long, courageous struggle with Cancer, Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Avalon Hospice. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, G-5443 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m., Apostle Kenneth D. Hogan officiating, Pastor Alfred L. Harris, Sr., Host Pastor. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Vance will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1-8 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Beatrice Carol (Hairston) Vance was born January 3, 1964, in Flint, MI to the late Dallis B. Hairston and Hattie (Malone) Hairston. Carol (Bea) confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. She sang in and directed the former Young Adult Choir. She later joined Living Bread Ministries where she resided. Carol graduated from Flint Northwestern High School in 1982. She received her BA in Family Life Education from Spring Arbor University. Carol was employed at Ashland Theological Seminary as an Administrative Assistant to the Dean. She soon retired after her illness. Carol married Harvey Vance in Flint, MI on December 30, 1994. Among her life’s pleasures, Carol enjoyed shopping, reading the word, gospel music, writing grants, spending time with family and friends, and most of all singing. She is survived by devoted husband: Harvey Vance of 16 years; adoring daughter, Alana Vance, both of Redford, MI; goddaughter, Kayla Dupree of Romulus, MI; mother, Hattie Hairston, Flint, MI; 3 sisters, Maidie (William) Flenard of Flint, MI, Sherry (Johnny) Moore, Gwendolyn (Andree’) Hicks, both of Flint Twp, MI; 5 brothers, Walter B. Hairston of Flint, MI, Dallis R. (Harriette) Hairston of Waco, TX, Ronald (Odella) Hairston of Grand Blanc, MI, Terrell (Enid) Price-Hairston of Buffalo, NY, Moises Hairston of Pontiac, MI; 9 aunts, Martha (George) Sykes, Molly Hairston, Ella (Gilbert) Bransford, Mary Hairston, Ronea Benson, all of Flint, MI, Augusta Brown of Detroit, MI, Lucy Ann Malone of Columbus, MS, Thelma Hairston of St. Louis, MO, Cheryl (Brad) Ryan of Southfield, MI; great aunt, Lula Monroe of Crawford, MS; 6 uncles, Robert (Lois) Hairston and George Hairston, both of Flint, MI, LeRoy (Nancy Mae) Malone of Columbus, MS, Melvin (Peggy) Harris of Springhill, TN, Morris (Mary) Vance of Gallatin, TN, Harry (Edith) Vance of Detroit, MI; special uncle, William (Billy) Brown of Flint, MI; great uncle, Mack Q. Tucker of Crawford, MS; mother-in-law, Ella Mae Vance, Southfield, MI; father-in-law, Tommy Williams of Detroit, MI; 3 brothers-in-law, Jackie McNeal of Flint, MI, Dana Vance of Detroit, MI, Rod Vance of Detroit, MI; 5 sisters-in-law, Charnice Elana (Kurt) Alexander of Norcross, GA, Lanita Vance, Yvonne Vance, both of Detroit, MI, Bobbie (James) Edwards of Lilburn, GA, Precious (James) Hackett of Detroit, MI; Carol was blessed with 21 nieces; 17 nephews; several great nieces and nephews; numerous cousins, other relatives and special friends including Kim (Brian) Dupree, Ramona Faulks, Candice Fenner, Joshua (Francis) Hicks and family. Mrs. Vance was preceded in death by her father Dallis Hairston; sister, Sandra (Hairston) McNeal; grandparents; 5 uncles; 1 aunt; 2 brothers-in-law; and many other relatives.
