Mrs. Barbara Jean Summerville

SUMMERVILLE, Mrs. Barbara - Age 65, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI. Family hour 1:30 PM Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Family Worship Center Church, 3280 N. Linden Rd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd., Burton, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 1:30 PM Tuesday. Mrs. Summerville will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Monday. Mrs. Barbara Jean Summerville was born March 11, 1955 in Leland, Mississippi, the daughter of William and Annie Lee Mitchell. Lovingly raised by Vera and Will Hamlett. Barbara was employed at the Flint Chamber of Commerce, in 1979, she began her career at General Motors Corporation. She held various titles from Production Supervisor to Accounting and Sr. Supplier Quality Engineer from the years 1979-2002 (23 years) and was currently an employee of Genesee Education Consultant Services as a Youth Development Leader. In her early years, she worshipped at Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church and joined Family Worship Center Church International in 1991 as one of the original 12 members. Over the next 29 years she would serve as a Greeter, Teacher in the Children’s Ministry, Member of the Finance Committee, as well as a Member of the Wise Women Win Team where she was titled “The Ice Breaker Queen.” Barbara enjoyed gardening, traveling, family gatherings, canning and sewing. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing in 1978 from Ferris State College and her Associate Degree in Robotic Technology in 1991 from Mott Community College. Mrs. Barbara Jean Summerville leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Duane Summerville; 2 daughters and 1 son, Wesley Summerville, June Summerville, and Keonna B. Summerville; 7 grandchildren, Malik Doehla, Harold Johnson, Natalia Jean Summerville, Avery Summerville, Solomon Doehla, Amir Summerville and Lilliana Summerville; 3 sisters, Clara Releford, Evonne Mitchell and Stephanie Wallace; nieces, Donette (Nick) Mabry and JoAnn Wright; nephews, Alphonzo Wright, James Mitchell, Allen Hamlett and Martrice Mitchell; father-in-law, Raymond Summerville; sisters-in-law, LaVonda Myers (Kevin), Rhonda Summerville and Rene Summerville; brothers-in-law, Will Hamlett, Gerald Summerville, Charles (Karen) Summerville, Greg (Bridget) Summerville, Donald (Stevie) Summerville and Bert Summerville; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Summerville was preceded in death by her parents, William and Annie Lee Mitchell; sister, Vera Hamlett; brother, Mack Acron Jr.; nephews, Charles Releford and Lonell Hamlett; mother-in-law, Hester Lee Summerville.
