SMITH, Mrs. Barbara Ann - Age 71, passed away Friday, April 12, 2019 at Hospice House Shiawassee County, MI. Family hour 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Dr. Marvin A. Jennings, Sr., officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Wednesday. Mrs. Smith will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday, with the family present from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM to receive friends. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to The Hospice House of Shiawassee County, 2005 Copas Rd., Owosso, MI 48867. Barbara Ann (Stewart) Smith was born on May 13, 1947, in Birmingham, Alabama to Willie Hugh and Lillie Mae (Smith) Stewart. She graduated from Rosedale High School in Birmingham in 1965, and Miles College, also in Birmingham, in 1969. After college, she married Carnell Smith and moved to Flint, Michigan joining Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church. To this union were born, Carna Cureton and Kareem Smith. Barbara retired from the State of Michigan after more than 25 years as a Claims Examiner for the Michigan Employment Security Commission (MESC), currently known as Unemployment Insurance Agency. Her memory will be cherished by: devoted husband of 49 years, Carnell Smith of Flint; daughter, Carna (Warren) Cureton of Canton, Michigan; son, Kareem (Kevin) Smith of Saint Paul, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Marcus Cureton and Allen Cureton, both of Canton, Michigan; brother, Johnnie Lee (Barbara) Stewart of Birmingham, Alabama; sister, Mary Frances (Charlie) Mott of Birmingham, Alabama; special friends, Beverly Pollard of Flint, Barbara James of Memphis, Tennessee and Georgia Blair of Birmingham, Alabama; special sisters-in-law, Karen Stewart of Birmingham, Alabama and Marlene Smith of Flint; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Hugh and Lillie Mae (Smith) Stewart; sister, Lillie Mae (Mickey) Ray; brothers, Willie (Junior) Stewart, Jessie Stewart, and Curtis Stewart; father-in-law, George Smith; mother-in-law, Martry (Madear) Smith; brothers-in-law, Wallace Smith and Rheuhanamus Smith; special aunt, Elizabeth (Puddin) Stewart Pope; and special friend, Louise Hayes. The family acknowledges Dr. Ernesto Dulerte and staff, McLaren-Flint and McLaren Hospice staff, Regency Nursing Facility Grand Blanc and the staff of Hospice House of Shiawassee County.
