Mother Barbara Ann Johnson

JOHNSON, Mother Barbara Ann - Age 82, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2016 at her residence. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Victorious Word Church, G-3560 Beecher Rd., with funeral services commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Rodney Murphy officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Johnson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday. Mother Barbara Ann “Bang” Johnson was born December 18, 1933 in Gaffney, South Carolina the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Samuel Sr. and Pricilla Mack Knuckles. She attended Gaffney Public School system, graduating from Grenard High School, “Class of ‘54”. Mother Barbara accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at age 14, becoming a member of Mt. Sinai in Gaffney, SC. She was united in marriage in 1955 to Mr. George Johnson. In 1960 the couple moved to Flint and Mother Barbara became a member of St. Mark Baptist Church. She was a member for over 50 years, serving under the leadership of Pastor J.S. Hopkins. Mother Johnson was active president of the Senior Choir, Missionary Society, and both the Deaconess and Mother’s Boards. She later joined Victorious Word Church, under the leadership of Pastor Rodney Murphy, whom she loved as a son, and served as a faithful ‘Mother’ until her passing. Mother Johnson served her life as a Christian Woman of the Lord and was skilled in the word of God. She was an affectionate loving mother, not only to her own children, grand, great and great-great-grandchildren, but to others as well. Mother Johnson took great joy in the lives of her children. She never failed to call you everyday and tell you she loved you. Mother Barbara was an awesome homemaker and taught us well. Mother Barbara Ann Johnson leaves to cherish her fond memory: 4 daughters, Phyllis Knuckles, Brenda (Sammy “G”) Mason, Sr., Michella Johnson all of Flint, and Sharon (Myron) Causey Sr. of Arizona; 2 sons, George Johnson, and Chris (Tawana) Johnson of Flint; 14 grandchildren, Kesa, Tamara, Mia (Terrance) Allen, Mandy (James) Davis, Jr., Shauna, Sammy Jr., Darius (Nicole) Mason, Tiffany, Quontez (Lia) Cummings, Sigourtney, Shamyra, Triana, Myron Jr., Dennis II; 16 great-grandchildren, Keyonna, Keyontae, Mercedes, Keyerra, Vont’e, Rick, Keyonteonna, Janage’, Key’Daja, Nyia, Neveah, Terrance Jr., Kyran, Deion, Mahki, Amaia; 3 great-great-grandchildren, Anthony III, Alaysia, Key’Shaun; 4 sisters, Mrs. Delia Ballard, Mrs. Juanita (Joe) Watkins, Mrs. Dorothy Tate and Mrs. Nelleree Hardy; 3 god-sisters, Inez Littlejohn, Lucille Wood all of Gaffney, SC, and Lois Starks of Flint; 2 brothers, Mr. Cossie (Johnnie Mae) Knuckles and Mr. Mack (Nancy) Knuckles of Gaffney, SC; a host of sisters and brothers-in-law, other relatives and friends including special daughters, Mary Stringer-Davis, Eleanor Harris, Stephanie Howard, Keiona Murphy, Kinya Williams, Ramona Jackson; special sons, Michael Harris, Daryl Howard, John Williams, Kalus Jackson. Mother Johnson was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Johnson; great-great-grandson, King Eli; parents, Samuel and Pricilla Knuckles; sister, Blanche Proctor; and brother, Samuel Knuckles, Jr. A very special thanks to Michella for being there through it all, and Nina for being there for Michella.
