Mrs. Barbara Buford

BUFORD, Mrs. Barbara - Age 68, passed away Monday, July 13, 2015 at her residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Vernon Chapel AME Church, 5802 Dupont St., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Dr. Byron C. Moore, Host Pastor. Rev. Roosevelt Brown, Officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Buford will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 p.m. - 8 p.m., with family present from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Tuesday. Ms. Barbara Jean Buford was born October 20, 1946 in Flint, Michigan the daughter of Robert and Margaret Redmond. Barbara was a resident of Flint, Michigan. She received Christ at an early age and was a member of Vernon Chapel AME Church and the Unity Gospel Choir. Barbara graduated from Flint Northern High School. She retired from the United States Postal Service with 29 years of service. Barbara was a Treasurer of the Dewey Street Neighborhood Block Club Association. She loved reading the word of God while fishing. She loved helping others and was always supporting of others and would always be willing to be in charge of the church car washes. A loving mother, sister and devoted friend. Barbara was a peacemaker who was committed to live by personal values such as; loyalty, integrity and faith. She also loved long walks and motorcycle rides. Barbara promoted higher education and was gifted in ministry. She was an Evangelist in her community and family. Barbara loved giving Bibles to the children in her neighborhood. She was very committed to the care of her senior aunts who were with us. Barbara never complained about the difficulties and struggles of life. She fought a very strong fight of faith in the midst of her illness and difficulties. She loved god with all her heart and soul. Ms. Barbara Jean Buford leaves to cherish her memory: life partner, David Cox of Flint; daughter, Yolanda Michelle Buford of Decatur, GA; 7 special children, Marjona Kemp, Tracy Graham, Beyounca Cox, David Cox, Mario Douglas and Jesse Davis; grandchildren, Russell Buford III of Flint, Lemuel Goldman of Birmingham, AL, Shaveh, Moriyah and Gibbar Goldman, all of Birmingham, AL; 2 sisters, Pastor Sylvia Jones and Wendy Poole; 3 brothers, Gill Redmond, Timothy Redmond and Walter Redmond; cousins, Nickleson, Thompson and Buyck families; 3 sisters-in-law; 2 brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends including special friends: Barbara Parker, Betty Webb, Ella Teamer, Sarah Clark and Mike Jones. Mrs. Buford was preceded in death by her children, Rachel D. Buford, Russell F. Buford II; adopted parents, George & Ida Holman; parents, Robert & Margaret Redmond; siblings, Margaret (Jackie) Hater, Ronnie Redmond and Eric Redmond.
