Mother Arlene Lovett

LOVETT, Mother Arlene - Age 83, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2015 at New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church, 1035 E. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Elder Patrick W. Sanders, Sr. officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 a.m. Monday. Mother Lovett will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday. Mother Arlene Lovett was a kindhearted, classy, creative and loving woman of God. She was born on December 31, 1931 in Willard, Ohio to the late Sam and Mattie McKinney. She was married to Perry Lovett for over 40 years. At an early age, she discovered her love of caring for others while working with her mother at the local hospital. Mother Lovett pursued this passion working at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, MI and attending Mott Community College simultaneously. She receiving her Associates degree in Nursing in 1978 from Mott and retired in 1987 from Hurley as a Licensed Registered Nurse. Mother Lovett was a faithful member at New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church, having served for many years as the President of the Mother’s Board and also served on the Tape Ministry. She loved to care for her garden of various flowers and plants, keeping her yard immaculate. In her early years she helped run a family owned restaurant in Saginaw, MI. She also loved to golf and play tennis along with sewing and making beautiful hats. Mother Lovett was an avid bargain shopper and loved to dress in glitz and glam. She was a life-long learner and loved studying and reading the bible along with other books. In her later years, she loved caring for her cat Snoop and loved to eat her favorite snacks. Mother Arlene Lovett leaves precious memories to be cherished: Daughter Alice Marie Smith of Saginaw, MI; step-children, Linda Renee Hawthorne of Detroit, MI and Sandra Hill of Springfield, OH; Grandchildren, Rose Davis of E. Lansing, MI, Mitchell (Sheree) Holden of Toledo, OH, Stephanie White of Saginaw, MI, Brenda White of Atlanta, GA, and Perry White of Saginaw, MI; Step-grandchildren, Duane (Diane) Miller of Clarkston, MI, Lavern (Marilyn) Miller of Fayetteville, N.C., Edna Harman of Texas, and Steven (Rhonda) Harmon of Flint, MI; three sisters-in-law, Patsy Ruth Lovett of Eldorado, AR, Emma Mardis and Maxine (Sam) Milsap all of Chicago, IL, brother-in-law, Will (Linda) Lovett of Eldorado, AR; a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews including special great-nephew Leroy (Valerie) Johnson of Saginaw, MI, God-daughter and son Debora and Charles Baker, God– granddaughters Kizzie and Megan Baker all of Flint, MI, long time neighbors Dennis and JoAnn Powell, special friends Shari Wolford and family of Flint, MI, Rosetta Haywood of Atlanta, GA, and Mother Margaret Montgomery of Mt. Morris, MI. Mother Lovett was proceeded in death by her husband Perry Lovett, parents Sam and Mattie McKinney, four brothers Buster, Claude, Christopher and Lenward McKinney, three sisters Ella Mae Corley, Rosa Lee Johnson, and Christina McKinney, daughter Beatrice K. Davis, step daughter Dorothy Ferguson and grandchildren Steven Pierre Davis, Quinta White, and Reginald Shields.
