Mrs. Arcie Dell Wheeler

WHEELER, Mrs. Arcie Dell - Age 88, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023, at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, May 20, 2023, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 AM Saturday. Mrs. Wheeler will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Mrs. Arcie Dell (Hendrix) Wheeler was born March 23, 1935 to the late Elder Lee Hendrix and Corene Hendrix in Blevins Arkansas. She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband, Willie Wheeler and her son, Vernett “Buddy” Carmen. On Friday May 12, 2023 Mrs. Wheeler made her transition from this earthly tent to her heavenly home while at Hurley Medical Center. Mrs. Wheeler was the fifth child of all twelve children born to the union of Lee and Corene Hendrix. She was also preceded in death by the following siblings, Mrs. Orlillian Ogburn, Mrs. Elsie Price, Mrs. Gulfae Tidwell, Mr. Willie D. Hendrix, Mrs. Ina R. Jones, Mr. Lee Hendrix Jr. and Mrs. Minnie Pearl Livingston. Mrs. Wheeler attended Blevins High School in Blevins, Arkansas. At the age of 19-years-old she married Vernett Carmen. They had three children, Loretta A. Carmen of Flat Rock, MI, Verdell Carmen of Flint, MI and Vernett Carmen Jr. (deceased). Mrs. Wheeler left Arkansas and moved her family to Flint, Michigan where she has resided every since. She worked for Fisher Body I and Buick City, divisions of General Motors Corporation, and that is where she met her late husband, Mr. Willie Wheeler. Mrs. Wheeler was a member of Harris Temple Church Of God In Christ and then later Faith Temple Church Of God In Christ. She loved serving God and working in the church. Mrs. Wheeler also enjoyed Baking, Gardening, Cooking, Sewing, and decorating her home. She was an Avid Doll Collector and loved helping others. Mrs. Wheeler has been referenced as a classy lady because of the was she dressed, walked and carried herself. She was known for her karate kick and her boxing skills. Mrs. Wheeler would always say, “They called me Joe Louis when I was in high school.” Mrs. Arcie Dell Wheeler leaves to morn and cherish her memories: 2 daughters, Loretta Carmen and Verdell Carmen; grandchildren, Antrell Carmen (Ashley) of Flint, MI, Alim Carmen of Inkster, MI, George Smith of Taylor, MI, Sharee Webb of Westland, MI and William Hobson of Flint, MI; great-grandchildren, Mila Carmen of Phoenix, AZ, Kendra Fields of Flint, MI, Treylon Gomez of Inkster, MI, Trinity Carmen of Ypsilanti, MI, Jamarie Coleman of Westland, MI, Samiya Baldwin of Westland, MI, Chasley and Yahna Carmen of Flint, MI, Cartel, Braylan, and Richman Smith of Detroit, MI, Gia Smith of Taylor, MI, and Kendyle Hobson of Flint, MI; great-great-grandchildren, Idris and Ivyana Malone; 3 sisters, Mrs. Bertha F. McClenton, Mrs. Barbara (Charles) Newborn, Mrs. Evelyn (Henry) Flowers and Mrs. Effie C. Duncan; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
