DURRETT, Mrs. Anna E. "Miss Ann" - Age 81, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 11:30AM Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 719 Moore St., with funeral service commencing at 12:00Noon. Father Phil Schmitter, celebrant. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:30AM Wednesday. Mrs. Durrett will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Tuesday. Mrs. Anna E. Durrett "Miss Ann" (Sickles) was born April 27, 1925 in Universal, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Ada Elizabeth and Lee Edward Sickles and the second of 10 siblings. Anna was raised in Lebanon, KY and graduated from Rosenwald High School at the top of her class Magna Cum Laude. On May 6, 1947 she married William Lee, which would have been 60 years this May. In 1953 she moved to Flint. Anna was a dedicated, hardworking mother, who went above and beyond to raise 7 children, all of who grew up to become beautiful adults whom she was very proud. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and was an avid supporter and the number one fan to all her sons who were involved in high school sports activities. She never missed an event and would even walk through snow and rain to support her boys. She also loved to cook, sew, and macrame'. Surviving are husband, William; children, Eva White, Dennis (Gwendolyn) Durrett, Lawrence (Janet) Durrett, Robert (Jana) Durrett, Monica (Stephen) Byrd, Donald (Shirley) Durrett all of Flint, and Florence (Gary) Nichols of Houston, TX; brothers, William Bernard (Barbara) Sickles, Charles Tracy (June) Sickles, George (Betty) Sickles, James Douglas (Doris) Sickles; sisters, Mary Catherine Grady, Louise Lewis, Clementine (Joe) Smally, and Nancy Riley; grandchildren, Eugene (Terralisa) McBride, Lawrence Durrett, Jr., Audrica Michael Beane, Necol (Derrice) Alexander, Katrina (James) Campbell, Kiva (Terry) White, Keisha (Christopher) Gates, Taharqa (Litiesha) Blue, Janetta Durrett, Diarra Blue, Onja Nichols, LaQueta Durrett, Alisha Durrett, Nawara Blue, Gary Nichols, II.; 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Anna also had many dear friends and family including Marie Burton, Gloria Strong, Leon and Willie Mae Miller, Delores Taylor, Paul Stokes and the Porter and Clements families. Special thanks to Dashika Finley, Deacon Anthony Verdun and the Sacred Heart Church family, Francis Duncan, Veronica Lewis and Hurley Medical Center staff. Anna was preceded in death by her parents and brother Lee Edward Sickles.
