Mr. Amos Guyton Jr.

GUYTON, Mr. Amos Jr. - Age 94, passed away Friday, September 9, 2016 at Pray Family Care Home. Family hour 11:00 AM Friday, September 16, 2016 at Bethel United Methodist Church,1309 N. Ballenger Hwy., with funeral service commencing at 12:00 PM Pastor Faith Green-Timmons officiating. Interment Crestwood Memorial Cemetery, 2020 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:00 AM Friday. Mr. Guyton will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday. Mr. Amos Rudolph Guyton, Jr. was born September 13, 1921 in Columbus, Mississippi, the son of Amos R. Sr. and Ida (Hunter) Guyton. He was employed as a Supervisor at General Motors Corporation. Amos was a faithful member of Bethel United Methodist Church for 49 years where he served the Lord singing in the Choir. He loved his wife of 57 years whom he lovingly called “Baby.” Amos was a member of the Motor City Senior Golf League. He enjoyed traveling, reading cowboy books, golfing and movies. Amos received numerous awards and trophies including the Elder Award Certificate for the City of Flint for reaching 80 years old. He also received the Second Annual Golden Deer Award. Amos could cook some mean Collard Greens, Hot Water Corn Bread, Sweetest Day Barbecue. Mr. Amos Rudolph Guyton, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Lillian G. Young of Mt. Morris, MI; grandchildren, Shelia Guyton Mays, Derrett R. (Yvette) Guyton of Grand Prairie, TX, and Carlos Amos Young of Flint; great-grandchildren, McClabia Mays, Jr., Derrett Guyton, Jr., Shanika Mays, and Breanna S. Guyton; 2 nieces by marriage, Joan (Larry) Simpson of Flint, and LeFiesta Williams Roland; nephew, Albert (Rosetta) Holman Williams of, all of Clarksdale, MI; cousin, Donald (Marie) Davis of Columbus, MS. Mr. Guyton was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie Lee Guyton; grandson, Henry S. Young, Jr.; parents, Amos Sr. and Ida Guyton; sister, Mary Guyton; aunt, Mary Goin; mother and father-in-law, Rev. Harry Holman and Essie Bell Williams; sister-in-law, Essie Belle Williams; brother-in-law, John Elliott. The family would like to express special thanks to Bethel United Methodist Church family, Pray Family Care Home Hospice of Clio, MI, and everyone that put time and effort to care for my father, Larry Simpson and special friend, Mrs. Shirley Vaughn of Flint.
