Mother Alvenia White

WHITE, Mother Alvenia - Age 88, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2015 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Bethlehem Temple Church of the Apostolic Faith, 3401 M.L. King Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Phillip Thompson officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Mother White will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1-8 p.m. Friday. Mother Alvenia Hicks-White born May 13, 1926 in Norphlet, Arkansas was the ninth child of Cato and Georgia Etta Thrower-Hicks. Mother Alvenia Hicks-White graduated from Smith High School in 1944. She later was baptized and became a member of New Providence Baptist Church of Norphlet, Arkansas. Alvenia met and married Henry Woodrow White on June 5, 1948 and was the loving dedicated mother of four wonderful children; Lawrence E. White, Valeria F. White-Massey, Etta M. White who died at birth and Carolyn L. White. After Mother White and her family moved to Michigan, she yielded to the water call by being baptized in Jesus name and received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost November of 1951. A faithful member of Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Church for 64 years. Mother White served as a Sunday school student, secretary of the Sunday school adult class, church cook, and member of the Usher Board. Alvenia did not idle her time as her hobbies included being very active in her church, planting flowers, mowing the lawn, gardening, crocheting, walking, painting, cooking for her family along with a little sewing. Alvenia is the loving wife of Henry Woodrow White who has celebrated 66 years of married this past June 2014. They are the proud parents of three children, four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Mother Alvenia White leaves to cherish her memory: husband of 66 years, Henry W. White; son, Lawrence E. White; daughter, Carolyn L. White both of Flint; grandchildren, Lawrence J. (Karia) White of Swartz Creek, MI, Kinda M. (Marvin) Henry of Flint Township, MI, Ramonda R. Massey of Gulfport, MS, Shaunette L. (Keith) Fortson of Phoenix, AZ; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Earseline Tolliver of Eudora, AR and Velma Slaughter of Camden, AR; brothers/sisters-in-law, Bobbie Hicks of Norphlet, AR, Major (Deloris) White of Flint, Archie (Helen) Brown of Detroit, MI, William (Helen) White of Los Angeles CA, Ted (Judy) White of Vacaville, CA, Charles White of Detroit, MI; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; special goddaughter, Camille (Val) Owens; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Sis. Flossie Bowe, Pastor & First Lady Phillip J. Thompson, Elder & Mrs. Delbert (Diane) Anderson, Pastor Joseph (Betty) Levels, Ed Wilson, Jr.; both Smith families, the Brazle family, Cliff (Barbara) Taylor, the entire Bethlehem Temple Church family; Marette Smith and family; the Bennett, Henry, Glory White and family, many others too numerous to name all. Mother Alvenia White was preceded in death by her parents, Cato (Georgia) Hicks; two daughters, Valerie Faye Massey & Etta Marie White; six brothers; three sisters; three brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law.
