Mr. Alonzo Kelley Ellison

ELLISON, Mr. Alonzo Kelley - Age 56, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at VA Hospital in Detroit, MI. Family hour 10 a.m. Monday, November 4, 2013 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2109 M.L. King Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Danyiel Griffin, officiating, Pastor Rodney Ellison, Host Pastor. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 a.m. Monday. Mr. Ellison will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Alonzo Kelley Ellison was born January 26, 1957 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Daisy Horton and Willie P. Williams. Alonzo was raised and attended school in Compton, California, where he graduated from high school in 1975. Following graduation, Alonzo enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served 4 years and was Honorably Discharged. He returned back to Michigan and later became a member of EL-Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Danyiel Griffin. Alonzo later relocated to Pontiac, Michigan. Alonzo was a very caring person and was loved by everyone. His hobbies included bowling, listening to music, fishing, and being around family and friends. Mr. Alonzo Kelley Ellison leaves to his cherished memory: daughter, Tamara Ellison of Flint; 3 stepchildren; 1 granddaughter, Latasia Ellison of Flint; 15 step-grandchildren; 5 step great-grandchildren; parents, Daisy Horton of Flint and Willie P. Williams of Philadelphia, PA; 3 sisters, Evangh Horton of Flint and Tracy Horton of Evans, GA and Carla Benneth of Philadelphia, PA; 4 brothers, Danny Horton, Maurice Ellison and Daniel Horton, Jr., all of Flint and Keith Mitchell of Philadelphia, PA; 6 nieces, Danielle Horton, Sarita Robinson McLean, Lequnda Ellison, Sierra Ellison, all of Flint and Kyla Horton of Evans, GA; nephews, Carl Franklin, Jr., Aaron Ellison, Montrey Horton, all of Flint, Zyan Stewart of Anderson, IN and Miles Horton of Evans, GA; aunts, Annie Frost, Carrie (Bennie) Hall, Elaine Shelton, all of Flint, MI, Verna and Earnestine Horton, both of Compton, CA, and Nona Harrison of LaGrange, GA; uncles, Joe Williams of Atlanta, GA, and Virgil Williams of LaGrange, GA, father-in-law, Johnnie Shelton; 7 sisters-in-law; 4 brothers-in-law; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends, including special aunts, Elaine Shelton and Pearl Shamlion, both of Flint, MI and Verna Horton of Compton, CA; very dear friend, Vickie Jackson of Atlanta, GA. Mr. Ellison was preceded in death by wife, Aldean Ellison; sister, Sharon Horton; grandparents, Bennie and Annie Ellison; stepfather, Daniel Horton, Sr. and mother-in-law, Annie Shelton. The family would like to express special thanks to longtime friend, Ms. Gail Freeman, the doctors and staff of Kamaos Hospital and the dialysis staff and doctors of the V.A.
