COFFEY, Mother Almeta E. - Age 92, passed away Monday, August 14, 2023, at Kith Haven. Family hour 11:00 AM Friday, August 25, 2023, at Greater Emmanuel Temple Church, 1117 E. Genesee Ave. with Funeral Service commencing at 12:00 PM. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd., Burton, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 11:00 AM Friday. Mother Coffey will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Thursday August 24, 2023. Mother Almeta Edith Coffey was born December 10, 1930 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Rev. John Henry Rufus and Marion Smith. Mother Coffey was a resident of the St. John Community in Flint for many years. She attended Flint Northern High School. Mother Coffey also lived briefly in Washington, DC. She was a member of Greater Emmanuel Temple. Mother called was employed at Chevrolet, a division of General Motors Corporation until retirement. She also attended Cosmetology School for time and kept her hair and her sisters well groomed. Mother Coffey enjoyed traveling with family to Virginia and Alabama, she went on several cruises to Puerto Rico. She also enjoyed attending church and being with her close friends were her hobbies. Mother Coffey loved dining out as well. She was a very giving, caring and generous person. Mother Almeta Edith Coffey leaves to cherish her memory: granddaughter, Cinnamon Edith Smith; great-grandson, Remi Mitchell; 4 great-granddaughters, Cyesia Nash, Alanna Smith, Psalm Smith and Blesyn Smith; sisters, Deloris Helen Muhammad of Flint, Stella Mae Hill of Jacksonville, FL, Debra Denise Smith; 2 brothers, Melvin (Francis) Smith of Flint and John Charles Smith Jr. of Battle Creek, MI; nieces, Cheryl Ann Johnson, Mia O’Neal, Brandy Marquetta Williams of Atlanta, Ga, Ashia Reed, all of Flint, Cheree Rich of Atlanta, GA, Diana Lynn Smith and Marion Lucille Smith, both of Flint; nephews, Herman Smith Jr., Fred Smith Jr., Ron Van Willington Johnson Jr., Diamond Dearrow Edwards Wynn, Byron Smith, all of Flint, Matthew Blaine Smith, Wynn Dell Smith, both of Hampton, VA, Robert Clayton Evans of Flint, Decowin Terrell Smith of Parsons, KS, Robert Quimone Smith, Micah Sawyer, both of Flint, Lyle Smith of Huntington, AL, Quinton Smith and Michael Smith, both of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends including special friend, Nora Edwards. Mother Coffey was preceded in death by her son, Clarence Dewayne Smith; parents, Rev. John Henry Rufus and Marion Smith; step-mother, Birdell Naomi (Lyles) Smith; sisters, Shirley Naomi Smith and Doris Jean Smith; brother, Anthony Maurice Smith; nephews, Maurice Cornelius Smith and Stanley Smith; and special friend, Pearl Burkett.
