SMITH, Ms. Alma A. - Age 44, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2009 at St. Bernards Hospital in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Family hour 1:30PM Thursday, January 29, 2009 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 2PM. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 1:30PM Thursday. Ms. Smith will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Wednesday. Ms. Alma Ann Smith was born June 7, 1964 in New Orleans, Louisiana, the daughter of Albert Jr. and Sylvia Smith. Alma accepted Christ at an early age. She attended the New Orleans and Flint Public Schools. Alma enjoyed life to the fullest, cooking, partying, dancing, traveling, knitting and Mardi Gras. Alma spent her entire life with her family and close friends including her fiance’, Mitchell whom she loved dearly. She was a devoted mother of four until her angel departed her life at an early age. Ms. Alma Ann Smith leaves to cherish her precious memory: special friend and fiance’, Mitchell Riley of Jonesboro, AR; father of her children, Vincent Shannon of Flint; 2 daughters, Shaneka and Sylvia Shannon; son, Vincent Shannon all of Flint; 2 granddaughters, La’Shyia Beck-Shannon of Flint and Tamia Clark of Detroit, MI; parents, Sylvia Wilson and Albert (Bernadette) Smith, Jr.; a host of sisters including, Yolanda (Lawrence) Bandy of Flint; a host of brothers including, Albert Smith III of Flint and Warnell (Eva) Smith of Fort Smith, AR; 6 nieces, Keona Taylor, Pamela Jones, Nakeya Brown, Sapphire Smith all of Flint, Colleen and Eva Smith of New Orleans, LA; 2 great-nieces, Ny'Driuanna Horne and Stephani Smith; 9 nephews, Donnell, Albert III, Steven, Warnell, Jr., Emmanuel and Demarkus Smith, Isiah Oliver, Lawrence Bandy III and Markus Sumrall; 6 aunts, Patricia Gardner, Clara Crockett, Shirley Ali, Carol (Rudolph) Jenkins, Geraldine Charles and Joandell Smith; 3 uncles, Ronald, Dewayne and Micheal Smith all of New Orleans, LA; cousins, Robin Harris, Robert (Teresa) Bonds, Rochair Jenkins all of New Orleans, LA, Rudolph Jenkins of Houston, TX, Karen Dales and Johnny Gardner, Jr. both of Memphis, TN; a host of other relatives and friends including, Debra Simpson, Craig Wilson, Constance Beck, Beatrice Williams and Felicia. Ms. Alma Ann Smith was preceded in death by her baby girl, Aldreama Donald; brother, James Smith; grandmothers, Alma Ali and Alice M. Smith; grandfathers, Rochair Ali and Albert Smith, Sr.; step-father, Henry Howard Strozier and cousins, Lamb and Teresa Watson.
