Mrs. Alma Jean Cooper

COOPER, Mrs. Alma Jean - Age 79, passed away Friday, August 14, 2020 at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 25, 2020 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor James Hodo, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Chapel 10:00 AM Tuesday. Mrs. Cooper will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed 12:00 PM - 6:00PM Monday. Mrs. Alma Jean Cooper “Gram” was born September 19, 1940 in Olmsted, Illinois, the daughter of Walter and Pearl Cooper. Alma was educated in Flint, Michigan and graduated from Flint Northern High School, “Class of 1959.” She was later hired at Hurley Medical Center as a Housekeeper. Alma furthered her education and became a Respiratory Therapist; later promoted to Supervision in which she retired. Alma’s hobbies included, art and crafts, gardening, cooking and was an avid reader. After retirement she opened a business called Try Something Different Limited, specializing in Afro Centric-Memorabilia. Alma was well-known for her ceramics and began to travel to different conventions. Mrs. Alma Jean Cooper leaves to cherish her memory: 2 daughters, Onnie Gail Cooper of Flint and Denise (Ritchie) Haggans of Forrest City, AR; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Elder Helen Turner of Flint; brother, James P. Walker Jr. of Flushing, MI; a host of nieces and a nephew. Special friends include, Ms. Estell Williams of New Rochelle, NY and Minister Barbara Brown of Flint. Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Pearl Cooper; sisters, Janet Williams, Ruth Kale, Margaret Gillard and Bessie Mae Walker; uncles, Willie Woods, Eddie Woods, Charles Woods and Ben Woods. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Timothy R. Stokes, Bishop Neal Roberson and the Church of the Harvest International family, U of M-Ann Arbor, Nurse Practitioner Katie Barden, Dr. Zuo, Dr. Abdul M. Hasnie MD, Larus Hospice, Genesee Health Systems and very special thanks to sister-in-law, Samantha Allen.
