TURNIPSEED, Mrs. Alice - Age 74, our Mom, Grandma, and Auntie, gracefully went home to be with the Lord, Monday, February 7, 2011 at McLaren Regional Medical. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Monday, February 14, 2011 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 2 p.m. Pastor Seon Thompson officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Monday. Mrs. Turnipseed will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Mrs. Alice Turnipseed was born on August 4, 1936 in Dyersburg, TN to Curtis and Gustavia Crayton. Alice moved to Flint in 1968 and had been a resident ever since. She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of A.M.C. Missionary Baptist Church. Alice enjoyed being around family and friends, cooking, and music. She leaves to cherish her memory: 3 daughters, Christine Johnson, Classie B. Turnipseed and Ruthie Jones; 8 sons, Curtis, Eddie (Maria Williams), Al (Stella) Jones, Walter (Marie) Jones, Ed, David, Paul, and James; grandchildren, Victor, Delano, Adrian (Andrew) Duke, Fredrick, Lashonda, Lafeshia, Teaqua, Topaz, Marshawn, Walt Jr., JeQuandra, Deandre, Janeen, Reina, Ramiel, Marquel, and Marquasha; a host of great grandchildren including special great-granddaughter, Classiona Taylor and special great-grandson, Robert Kennard; 2 sisters, Willie C. Daniels of St. Louis, MO and Mae Vassar of Omaha, NE; husband, Dexter Woods; sister-in-law, Ruthie Crayton of St. Louis, MO; a host of nieces and nephews, including special niece, Gaye-Gaye Warren; goddaughter, Crystal Hughes, special friends, Delano McNeil and Kenyetta Hunter. Mrs. Turnipseed was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Gustavia Crayton; 4 sisters, Mary Williams, Josephine Warren, Mildred Christian and Laura Turner; 5 brothers, twin brother, Ellis Crayton, Lois Crayton, Lloyd Crayton, Clifton Crayton and Paris Crayton. The family would like to express special thanks to McLaren Regional Medical Center ICU and staff, family and friends.
