MITCHELL, Mrs. Alice L. - Age 74, God called Alice home, Sunday, February 19, 2012 from Hurley Medical Center, Flint, Michigan. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11 a.m. Eld. Willie Mae Bacon, officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Monday. Mrs. Mitchell will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrnce E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. The celebration of the wonderful life of Alice Louise Edwards-Mitchell began on November 28, 1937 in Louisville, Mississippi to the proud parents of Frank Edwards and Alberta Knowles-Edwards. She was the second of three children born to this union. In the mid 1940’s, Alice moved with her loving aunt Roberta Knowles-Sikes who she referred to as mother and her sister, Jean McQueen-Maxwell. It was there she received her formal education and spiritual guidance in Flint, Michigan. Alice was united in Holy Matrimony to Alva Mitchell and to this union five children was born; Marion, Thomas, Inez, LaJeunne and Adicus. Alice worked for Lafayette Nursing Home and Hurley Medical Center where she retired in 2002. She leaves wonderful memories with her devoted daughters, Inez Mitchell (Larry) and LaJeunne (Dale) Davis, all of Flint; her loving sons, Marlon Mitchell of Flint and Adicus (Grace) Mitchell of Memphis, TN; brother-in-law, Vernon Abernathy of Las Vegas, NV; her caring granddaughters, LaTonya (Larry) Lewis, Alice Davis, all of Flint; grandson, Khallid Mitchell of Detroit, MI; aunt, (mother), Roberta Sikes; sisters, Jean (John) Maxwell, all of Flint, Dr. Shari Maxwell of Detroit, MI, April Jones-Maxwell of Flint, Kimberly (Michael) Kee of Pittsburg, CA; nephew, Tony (Thelma) Collins of Oakland, CA; and a host of other family members and friends too numerous to name. Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in home-going by her husband, Alva Mitchell 1977; son, Thomas Mitchell 1958; brother, Frankie D. Edwards 1999; parents, Frank Edwards 1980 and Alberta Edwards 1943.
