BROOKS, Mrs. Alice T. - Age 98,went home to be with the Lord Sunday, January 7, 2007 at Heartland Hospice. Funeral service 11AM Saturday, January 13, 2007 at Greater Galilee Baptist Church, 4418 Industrial Ave. Pastor Latrelle Holmes, Sr., officiating. Interment National Veteran Cemetery, Memphis, Tennessee. Friends and family will assemble at the church 11AM Saturday. Mrs. Brooks will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Friday. Mrs. Brooks will be shipped to M.J. Edwards Funeral Home, 1165 Airway Blvd. in Memphis, Tennessee after funeral services for burial (901) 327-9360. Mrs. Brooks was born in Memphis, Tennessee, the daughter of Robert and Lelah Bradford Holmes. February 1, 1932 Alice married John Brooks. She always said he was her Clark Gable. There were no children to this union. Mrs. Alice T. Brooks leaves to cherish her memory: sister, Lelah Ratliff of Flint; brother, Hardin (Virginia) Holmes of Detroit, MI; a host of nieces and nephews in Henderson, NV, California, Memphis, TN, Utah, Atlanta, Flint, Denver and Horn Lake, MS; sisters-in-aw, Catherine Holmes of White Haven, TN, and Viven Holmes of Flint, MI. Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by her husband, John Brooks; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Lelah Bradford Holmes; brothers, Robert Holmes, Jr., Bradford Holmes, Sr., Eddie Holmes, and Ernest "Skeeter" Holmes. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Latrelle Holmes and Greater Galilee Baptist Church family for their generous hospitality and his guidance during this time, Heartland Hospice staff, nurse Andie Chapmon and aide Amy for making sure we got the things we needed during this difficult time in a timely fashion, Rev. and Mrs. Palmer and Mike for keeping a watch on things when we were not home. Mrs. Palmer's delicious sweet potatoe pies, Mrs. Liz Romon's Banana nut bread and Anna Palmer's fruit basket. You warmed our hearts with your kindness. The family would also like to thank Dr. Razzak and staff, Hurley Medical Center 5th floor staff for their patience and tenderness when she was in the hospital.
