Mr. Alfred S. Reaves

REAVES, Mr. Alfred S. - Age 84, passed away Monday, February 4, 2013 at his residence. Family hour 12:30p.m. Monday, February 11, 2013 at Blackwell AME Zion Church, 1902 Sonny St., with funeral service commencing at 1p.m. Pastor Anthony Morris officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12:30 p.m. Monday. Mr. Reaves will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Alfred S. Reaves was born November 8, 1928 in Flint, Michigan, the son of John Wesley Reaves and Annie (Blakely) Reaves. Alfred was a resident of Flushing, MI. He was a lifelong member of Blackwell A.M.E. Zion Church in Flint. Alfred attended the Flint Public Schools, graduating from Flint Northern High School. He was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army, and served during the Korean Conflict. Alfred retired from A.C. Spark Plug, where he was instrumental in hiring minorities in the City of Flint during the 1970’s and early 1980’s. Before his illness in May of 2000, he loved to travel, walking every morning and spending time with grandchildren. Mr. Alfred S. Reaves leaves to cherish his memory: loving devoted wife of 59 years, LaJoyce Reaves of Flushing, MI; children, Philip Reaves, Blake (Leslie) Reaves and Joya (Marty) Reaves-Embry; grandchildren, Toyai Alexander, Antonio Bryer, Schnell, Monica, Erick, Chani, Shannon, Alexis, Blake II and Niyah Reaves, Brittny Zollicoffer, Makyla Embry and Jovan Embry; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; 2 sisters-in-law, Effie Reaves of Flint, Hermie Sparks of Mt. Morris, MI; daughters-in-law, Ruby Bryer of Detroit, MI, Toksun “Lisa” Reaves of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends, including William “Billy” Broadway, Willie and Angeline Spencer and Maxine Clemons. Mr. Reaves was preceded in death by his 3 sons, Scott Chaney, Chedrick “Ricky” Reaves and Kevin Reaves; 2 grandchildren, Andre Bryer and Philip Reaves, Jr.; parents; 6 brothers, Thaddeus, Charles, Leon, Calvin, Lendy and Harrell Reaves. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Avalon Hospice, and son, Philip Reaves for many years of caring for “Dad”.
