BROWN, Mr. Alfred - Age 76, passed away Monday, June 22, 2009 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Family hour 11:30AM Monday, June 29, 2009 at House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church, 1851 W. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 12:30PM, Eld. Kenneth L. Stewart officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:30AM Monday. Mr. Brown will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10AM-8PM Sunday. Mr. Alfred Haywood Brown was born November 24, 1932 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the son of Daniel L. Brown and Ollie Works. Alfred was a resident of Flint and graduated from Flint Northern High School. He served 3 years in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge. Alfred worked for General Motors for many years. He loved sports, lifting weights, exercising and would exercise 5 to 6 times a day. Alfred also enjoyed being with his family, dancing with his niece and eating a hamburger everyday. He was very independent, generous, and a man of few words, who loved God. Most of all he had a special smile that made his children happy. Mr. Alfred Haywood Brown leaves to cherish his memory: 2 daughters, Doris McGowan and Deborah Sligh, both of Atlanta, GA; son, David Brown of Flint; 2 step-children, Mildred and Sydney Brown, both of Atlanta, GA; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Doris E. Matthews and Georgia Ann Nunley, both of Flint; 6 nieces; 9 nephews; cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Balard of Little Rock, AR; sister-in-law, Ann Brown of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Odis Mitchell and Latanya Payton. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie (Works) Brown-Goosby and Daniel L. Brown; sister, Geneva Montgomery; and brother, Joseph Brown. The family would like to express special thanks to caregivers, Marlon and Alvin Pollard, Jr., niece, Shakira Pollard, Boyd’s Home Care, Hurley Medical Center 4 East ICU, Kith Haven Nursing Home, McLaren Regional Medical Center, Eld. Kenneth L. Stewart and House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church family. .
