Mr. Alfonza Hopson

HOPSON, Mr. Alfonza - Age 85, passed away Sunday April 16, 2017 at his residence. Family hour 11:00 AM Friday, April 21, 2017 at Bethel United Methodist Church, 1309 N. Ballenger Hwy., with funeral service commencing at 12:00 PM, Rev. Faith Green-Timmons Host Pastor. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:00 AM Friday. Mr. Hopson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-8:00 PM Thursday. Alfonza Hopson, born October 13, 1931 to Celester and Cenie Mae (Johnson) Hopson in Philadelphia, Mississippi. Alfonza was one of 6 siblings; 3 boys and 3 girls. Alfonza accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. After graduation from high school he attended Missis-sippi Industrial College in Holly Springs, MS. Alfonza came to Flint, Michigan in 1955 and was hired in at General Motors. He retired after 37 years. He joined Bethel United Methodist Church in 1956 and had been in service there for 61 years. He served as church treasurer at the 12th and Liberty Street location, a member of the senior choir which is now Chancel choir, member of the Male Chorus until his health issues required him to resign. Alfonza loved Sunday school even after his hearing began to fail he still loved to attend. Treasuring his memory is his wife Savannah of 59 years. Daughters: Karen M. Jenkins, Lei A. Davie (Antonio) Sons: Terence D. Hopson (Tracey), Henry Hopson (Brenda), Alan L. Aron of Tinton Falls, NJ.. Sister: Alma L. Hopson, Brother: Harpole Hopson of Huntsville, AL. Grandchildren: Marlin C. Jenkins ll, Mychael A. Jenkins of Urbana, IL, Maria A. Byndom (Samuel) of Urbana, IL, Ethan O. Davie, and Shuntera L. Hopson of Tyler, TX. Great-grand children: Samar J. H. Byndom and Samuel J. Byndom ll of Urbana, IL. Nieces: Jennifer C. Rogers, Gwendolyn Wesson (Michael) of Niles, MI, Julia M. Earnest (Clyde), and Stephanie Morris of Houston, TX. Nephews: Alvin Wilker (Rebecca) of Knoxville, TN, Lawrence Wilker of Morristown, TN, Winfred Rogers (Kevin) of Chicago, IL, Ronald Hopson (Barbara) of Huntsville, AL, Michael Hopson (Konnie) of Arizona, many others of the heart. Special friends include David Smiley, Hank Thomas, Ernie Ri-son and Alice Whittley. He was preceded in death by parents, siblings and his son Gerald E. Hopson.
