Alberta Riley

RILEY, Mrs. Alberta - Age 84, passed away Monday, March 2, 2009 at Genesys Convalescent Center. Family hour 10AM Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11AM, Pastor Marvin A. Jennings, Sr., officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Saturday. Mrs. Riley will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1PM-8PM Friday. Mrs. Alberta Riley was born March 25, 1924 in Shreveport, Louisiana, the daughter of Bessie Henry Washington and Burl Holly. Mrs. Riley was a resident of Flint, Michigan. She accepted Christ at a young age. Mrs. Riley attended Shreveport Louisiana Public Schools. She united in Holy Matrimony with her childhood sweetheart Boyice Chester Riley. Alberta loved the Lord and loved to sing his praises. She was a faithful member of Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she sang in the Senior Choir. Mrs. Riley retired from Hurley Medical Center after 27 years of dedicated service. She loved to travel, South Africa was among her many travel excursions. Alberta also enjoyed bowling, fishing, going to casinos, attending plays and reading. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend who you could always count on whenever you were in need of help. Alberta could always make you laugh just by being herself. The Lord called her home on Monday, March 2, 2009, her mansion was ready. She leaves to cherish her memory: 3 daughters, LaVerne Harden, Juanita Vann and Verna Jean Gulledge, all of Flint; son, Boyice (Donna) Riley of Broken Arrow, OK; grandchildren, Darnize (Nancy) Harden, of Detroit, MI, Darren (Michelle) Harden of Menifee, CA, Delmond (Roxanne) Harden of Bellingham, WA, Deidre Harden of Tacoma, WA, Darlene Harden of Flint, Sonya Gulledge of Ypsilanti, MI, Kimyatta Gulledge of Richardson, TX, LaMarkco (Susanne) Gulledge of Rochester Hills, MI, Gloria Cheeks and Anita Riley both of Flint and Angelique Riley of Lexington, KY; 30 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ethelean Cole of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Riley was preceded in death by her parents, Bessie Henry Washington and Burl Holly; sister, Rosie Lee Butler; brother, Herman Holly, Sr.; sister-in-law, Alice Holly; nephews, Raymond Holly, Sr. and Gerald Thompson; and great-niece, Tammy McCoy. The family would like to express special thanks to the doctors and staff of Genesys Convalescent Center.
