ANDERSON, Mrs. Alberta - Age 65, passed away Friday, March 25, 2011 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2011 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 2 p.m. Pastor Monique Turner officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Mausoleum, The Chapel of the Angels, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Monday. Mrs. Anderson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Mrs. Alberta Leon Anderson was born July 27, 1945 in Memphis, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe Leon and Macy L. Moss. As a young girl, Alberta and her family moved on July 8, 1948 to Flint, Michigan. She graduated from Flint Northern High School, “Class of 1963.” Alberta received a certification for Dental Assistant in 1995 and she decided to continue her education and obtained her Bachelor's of Arts in Social Work from the University of Michigan. Known for her high Scholastic abilities, she was a member of the Phi Alpha Honor Society and the Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society. She achieved the James B. Angell Scholar Award and was a Maize and Blue nominee. By 2009, she obtained her Masters Degree in Social Work from Michigan State University receiving high honors. Alberta completed several internships that included, but not limited to the McLaren Visiting Nurses of Michigan, Fostrian-Heartland Health Center of Flushing, Michigan, Odyssey House, Hurley Home Health Care, and The Transition House Women’s Rehabilitation of Flint, MI. She accepted Christ at a very early age and was a faithful member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. E. Beverly Allen, where she sung in the EAC and the Unity Mass Choir. Alberta later became a member of Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. In 2004, she retired from AC Spark Plug (Delphi) after forty years of service as a front line Supervisor and billing clerk and was a member of UAW Local #651. Alberta enjoyed spending time with her pride and joy, her grandson, Dennis. She was fulfilled with delight when he would teach her the fundamentals of playing his video games and watching movies. Alberta enjoyed crocheting, shopping, and simply having fun. She leaves to cherish her memory, to never be forgotten: beloved daughter, Kelita Michelle (Antonio Rush) Anderson of Vienna Township; grandson, Dennis Smith III (Trey) of Vienna Township; a very significant and faithful friend, Kelita’s father, Gerald Brooks; 2 sisters, Flo (Paul) Greer of Flint and Claudy Price of Verbena, AL; 1 brother, Kenneth Leon of Savannah, GA; 1 aunt, Searcy Macklin of Flint; 17 nieces and nephews; 45 great nieces and nephews; 50 great-great nieces and nephews; 3 great-great-great nieces and nephews; a host of cousins and friends including the Johnson and Macklin families, Yasmine McMillan, Glenda, Ed Coleman; special nephew, Pastor Autwan (Kim) Roland, special nieces, Vanessa Darrough (Gene) Renfro, Pastor Monique Turner, and Chantelle Wright. She also leaves to cherish her furry companion, Chloe. Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Leon and Macy Moss-Leon-Taylor; 2 sisters, Earsie Begay and Theoressa Wright; 1 brother, Melvin Leon; 3 nephews, Lavelle and Brian Williams and Darwin Marshall; and the lost of many close relatives and friends. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Faith United Methodist Church, New Harvest Church, North Central Church of Christ, and the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church families.
