HARDWICK, Alan Ray, Jr. - Age 46, peacefully went to be with the Lord with his dear mother Melva and his grandmother “Big Mama” at his side on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at his residence. Family hour 10:30AM Monday, August 10, 2009 at International Gospel Center, G-4126 Fenton Rd., with funeral services commencing at 11AM. Pastor Gillie Harris, Jr., officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Mr. Hardwick will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed with the family on Sunday, August 9 from 10AM-6PM. Mr. Alan Ray Hardwick, Jr. was born November 1, 1962 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Alan R. Hardwick, Sr. and Melva J. (Barbee) Todd. Alan was a resident of Flint. He attended Flint Public Schools, graduating from Flint Central High School. He also attended Mott Community College. Alan attended Highest Praise Worship Center and was employed by Rome’s Trucking Company. He enjoyed listening to all types of music, his favorite entertainer was James Brown, the “Godfather of Soul”. Alan was known as the handyman of the family and could repair just about anything. He was admired for his memory skills and attention to detail. Alan touched everyone's life with his warm, friendly smile and soft-spoken voice. He was also known for his patience, especially with kids. Alan always tried to make this world a better place by setting an example for those whom he came in contact with and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was that special and only child of Melva Todd; he was her “Miracle Baby”. Mr. Alan Ray Hardwick, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: mother, Melva Jean (Barbee) Todd; stepfather, James Todd, Sr.; grandparents, Rome O. (Emergine) Barbee and Althea Brown, of Lawton, OK; 2 brothers, James E. Todd, Jr. of Flint and James M. (Helen) Todd of Lansing, MI; 2 aunts, Bertha (Barbee) McNeal of Kalamazoo, MI and Mary Hardwick of Dayton, OH; uncle, Charles Hardwick; a host of other relatives and friends including special godson, Antonio Evans and friends, Josh Copenhagen, Troy Houston and Marcus Stanley. Mr. Hardwick was preceded in death by his father, Alan Ray Hardwick, Sr.; brother, Joseph Todd; grandparents, Buford Hardwick and Vera (Hardwick) Stone; and uncle, Ovell Rome Barbee.
