Mrs. Abigail Florence Reaves

REAVES, Mrs. Abigail Florence - Age 94, passed away Monday, October 14, 2024, at McFarlan House. Family hour 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Rabon Turner, officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Wednesday. Mrs. Reaves will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Tuesday with family present from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. On October 14, 2024, Abigail Florence Reaves received her wings, and flew with the an-gels to heaven. She was 94 years old. Ms. Abigail Florence Reaves was born June 24, 1930 on a farm in Monroe, North Caro-lina. She was the eldest of three girls (Clara Mitchell, Glenda LeFlore) from the parents of John Wesley McCain, and Hattie Stokes-McCain. Abigail moved to Flint, Michigan in 1941 with her family, and soldiers during the war where her father obtained employment with Buick Motor Company, a division of General Mo-tors Corporation. While residing in Flint, Gail attended the 9th grade at Lowell Jr. High School, and Flint Central High School for the 10th and 11th grade. Abigail eventually com-pleted her final year of education at Carver High School in Kannapolis, NC. Continuing Abi-gail’s journey in Flint, MI she met a man by the name of Lendy Reaves whom she married in 1947 at the mature age of 16. This union brought forth a son, John Wesley Reaves II on No-vember 30, 1953 in Ann Arbor, MI. Abigail’s main form of employment was in the food industry. She was employed for several years at Winchester Hospital, and Genesee Memorial Hospital as a dietitian for 20 plus years, and then retiring in 1983. After retirement Abigail migrated back to Kannapolis, NC to care for her mother in which she secured employment with the HBCU Barber Scotia College in Concord, NC where she was able to exercise her skill as the lead kitchen supervisor. Abigail lived her life to the fullest, where it was filled with happiness, love, care, and most important forgiveness. Gail loved to travel with family, and friends while listening to her favorite genre of music, smooth jazz as birds followed her on her travels. As much as she loved to travel, her profession sprinkled on to family in her preparations of fine cuisines for family dinners, and gatherings. She would often watch, and leave her television on the food network channel as she prepared meals for family. Abigail was preceded in death by, John Wesley McCain, Hattie McCain; twin daughters, Shirene and Denise Reaves; sister, Glenda LeFlore; and former husband, Lendy Reaves. Gail leaves to mourn her passing; son, John & Tujunana Reaves (Flint, MI); grandson, Nicholas Reaves (Douglasville, GA); sister, Clara Mitchell (Charlotte, NC); special cousin, Warner McCain (Jacksonville, FL); special nieces, Wanda Smyers, Sheila Wilson, Rhonda Wilson, and Little Marge; special nephews, Gregory Renick, Michael Price and John Arthur Mitchell; special friends, Charlene Wooldridge, Carmileta Tofya-Jones, Jimmye Maxwell, and Elginne Johnson; and God-daughter, Tamera Johnson-Roy. The family would like express a special thanks to the caregivers of Western Hills Assist-ed Living, McFarlan Villages and Heartland Home, Health and Hospice.
