Wence Green

GREEN, Mr. Wence - Age 69, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Hurley Medical Center. Family Hour 11AM Monday, June 30, 2008 at House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church, 1851 W. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 12Noon, Pastor Kenneth L. Stewart, officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11AM Monday. Mr. Green will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 10AM-8PM Sunday. Mr. Wence Gregory “Green” Green was born December 18, 1938 in Heth, Arkansas, the son of Frances and Wence “Red Diamond” Green. “Green” was raised in West Memphis, Arkansas, where he was known throughout as an All-Star Athlete. In 1956 he earned a football scholarship to Mississippi Industrial College (MS). In 1957 he was called by the St. Louis Cardinal “Bomb Team” but chose to stay in school. He later served in the military. In 1964 he relocated to Flint, MI, four years later in 1968, he met his devoted loving wife of 40 years. He also attended Pine Bluff AM & N College during this time. Wence worked at Hurley Medical Center and AC Spark Plug. His love was golfing, fishing, cooking and playing dominoes. However, his pride and joy was his wife, children, and grandchildren. Nothing was more important than family. Mr. Wence Gregory “Green” Green leaves to cherish his memory: devoted wife of 40 years, Thressa Marie Green of Flint; 3 daughters, Thressa (Christen) Green-Bradley, Rosalyn and Pamela Rhodes; 7 sons, Maurice Murphy, Daryl Stewart, Dewano Clark, Terrance, Tyrone, Jason (Danielle) and Dallas Green; 35 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Vera Suggs; brother, Bobby Terrell both of West Memphis, AR; 3 nieces; 6 nephews; many aunts; 1 uncle; brother-in-law, Larry (Reba) Boyce; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Jessie (Margie) Miles, Robert “Chicken” Lee, Onie (Frances) Gilcrest, Jerome (Carla) Adams, Wilbur “Poppa” (Cynthia) Jarrett, Patricia Allen, Bad News, Hattie Pugh, Dorothy King, “fishing buddy”, Lawrence Crawford, Thomas Watkins, James (Lamar) Wallace and Leon Hines. Mr. Green was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Brewster; parents, Wence “Red Diamond” and Frances Green; sister, Rosetta Robinson; and stepmother, Clara Green. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Kenneth L. Stewart and House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church, family, friends and co-workers.
