Mrs. Patricia Ann Washington-Pettway

WASHINGTON-PETTWAY, Mrs. Patricia Ann - age 87, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023, at her residence. Patricia Ann Washington, born to Sarah Katherine (Blue) and George Washington Hill on March 17, 1936, in Brownsville, Tennessee. She was the fifth of nine children. She peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023; surrounded by her children. Patricia attended South Bend Community Schools and was a graduate of Washington High School in South Bend, Indiana. She furthered her education at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Patricia then relocated to Flint, Michigan, where she worked as a nurse for 44 years. Her nursing journey allowed her to be a blessing and care for thousands of patients at St. Joe Hospital, Flint, MI and Genesys Medical Center in Grand Blanc, MI until she retired in 1986. Patricia accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Vernon Chapel AME where she served on the Cook Women’s Missionary Society. She was a member of the Stewardess Board and was a Torch Lighter. She loved her church and was an active member in the ministry. Cherishing Patricia’s memory, she leaves sons: Michael A. Alexander, South Bend, Indiana and Melvin D. Shelton, Grand Blanc, Michigan; daughters: Ellen A. Washington, Clarkston, Michigan, Rosalind Alexander, South Bend, Indiana, Patricia Ouellette, Clarkson, MI; grandchildren: Nakesha Alexander, Isaac Scott, Melvin (Jennifer) Taylor, and Isaac (Jasmine) Taylor; great grandchildren: Jordan, Cameron, Savannah, Marlie, Myles, Wesley, Skylar, and Brandon; sister Josie Thompson, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; best friends, Loretta Bingham and Beverly Peeler; grand-dog Milo. Daughter Cathy Glenn; Grandson Michael Allen Alexander, II; siblings Rose Austin, Verneal Leonard, Evelyn Childress, George Hill, Betty Childress, Robert Hill and Donald Hill, all preceded her in death. Also mourning Patricia are a host of nieces, nephews and other family members. Patricia loved family, life, plants and was an avid gardener. She reached her potential in life and achieved all she desired. She was also known for her sense of humor. She always provided for her family. She was a protector by nature. Patricia is extremely compassionate, which is an ideal characteristic of working in the medical field. She is leaving behind a great legacy.
