Mr. John Henry Allen

ALLEN, Mr. John Henry - Age 75, passed away Friday, August 21, 2020 at Select Specialty Hospital-McLaren. Family hour 9:00 AM Tuesday, September 1, 2020 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Pak Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 9:30 AM. Rev. Robert Allen, officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the chapel 9:00 AM Tuesday. Mr. Allen will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Monday. Mr. John Henry Allen was born September 30, 1944 in Swift, Missouri, the son of the late Henry and Henrietta (Morgan) Allen. John was raised by his grandparents, the late Mack and Willie (Hullie-Owens) Morgan. After graduating high school, he was drafted into the United States Marine Corps where he served 2 Tours during the Vietnam War and received the Purple Heart of Valor Medal. John later settled in Flint, Michigan where he met and married the love of his life, Jane Alice Thomas. To this union 3 children were born. He always stressed the importance of education. While working full time at General Motors Corporation, John earned a Bachelor Degree from Detroit College of Business. He later retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. John loved the Lord and was a member of Holy Ghost Church Of God In Christ under the leadership of the late Herman H. Strong Sr. where he enjoyed playing the guitar. He believed in family first and always. John loved his music, westerns, playing the lottery, spades and he took pride in his yard. He was the life of the party where you could often hear him saying “who loves you lady?” “like a big dog” “I have a God! Who you got?” and “Imma live til I die.” Mr. John Henry Allen leaves to cherish his memory: wife of 50 years, Jane A. Allen; 2 daughters, Joni Allen and Judi (Jermaine) Garth; son, Jason Allen; 2 granddaughters, Brandi Hill and Jailyn Loving; grandson, Myles Allen; special niece, Ruth Ann (Tony) Threlkeld; special nephew, Johnnie Person of whom he helped raise; brother, Elder Robert (Teresa) Allen; sister, Doris Allen; 5 sisters-in-law, Marie Allen, Mary Allen, Grace Anderson, Pamela Brown and Leali (John) Alexander; 3 brothers-in-law, Thomas (Mona) Brown, Bruce (Sheila) Brown and Eugene Brown; aunt, Joyce Morgan, special cousin, Bonnie-Mae (James) Dunbar; a host of nieces, nephews including special nephew, Samuel Allen; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Art “Shack” Shackleford, Kevin Turner, Dwight Friend and Felix “Ce-mo” Watson. Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Henrietta Allen; grandparents, Mack and Willie Morgan, brothers, Walter and Oscar Allen; cousin, Bessie Hemphill.
