BELK, Mr. James P. Jr. - Age 90, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2023, at his residence. Family hour 10:30 AM Monday, December 11, 2023, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Jeffrey Hawkins, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 AM Monday. Mr. Belk will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Sunday. Mr. James Percy Belk Jr. was born June 24, 1933 in Marianna, Arkansas, the son of James Percy Belk Sr. and Clemmie Smith. James was a resident of Flint, Michigan since 1952. He found work at Buick City, a division of General Motors Corporation in January of 1953. After moving to Flint, he was introduced to Ruby Lee Redwine. They were married in 1962 and to this union 5 children were born. James was a dedicated employee of General Motors, working two shifts if needed hardly missing a day. He worked tirelessly to make sure his wife, children and other family members were provided for. In June of 1993, he finally retired from General Motors with 41 years of service. With constant prayer and encouragement from his wife, he finally dedicated his life to Christ at Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Marcellus Wade Sr. After the passing of Pastor Wade, Rev. Jeffrey Hawkins Sr. would become Pastor where he would continue to enjoy going to church. He also enjoyed attending church at Everlasting Missionary Baptist Church, his second church family. He loved to hear Pastor Ryan K. Mixon Sr. teach the word of God being welcomed as family. James also loved watching Westerns especially Gunsmoke, listening to the Blues, church, fishing, family gatherings, a good meal, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. James Percy Belk Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: 3 daughters and 2 sons, Lisa, Princess, Karen “Michelle” Belk, Steve (Cora) Belk Sr., all of Flint and Robbie (Debra) Belk of Clarksville, TN; a host of grandchildren including special granddaughter, Tiana Belk who sat with him in the evenings making sure he took his medications on time; a host of great-grandchildren including special great-granddaughter, Little McKenzie Evans, only she could get him to turn away from Gunsmoke to watch Cocomelon with her; sister, Rose Bryant of Kansas City, MO; brother, Isaiah Belk of Flint; a host of nieces including special nieces, Brenda and Dean of Ohio, Gale, Evelyn, Sherice Redwine, Twylah Kwiatkowski, Monica Redwine-Anderson, Barbara Walker, Karen Johnson, Monica Parlor-Rodgers and Sheree Parlor-King; a host of nephews including special nephew, Albert “Pete” Wilson of Ohio; a host of cousins including special cousin, Mary Ann Demps; 3 sisters-in-law, Dorothy Belk of Jackson, MI, Eula Belk of Woodbridge, VA and Virginia Redwine of Mt. Morris, MI; brother-in-law, Eddie Pace of Cleveland, OH; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, other “Sons”, Michael Shelton, Michael Stringer, Richard Snead, Ernest “Winkle” Gray and the Redwine, Roper and Walton families, grandson, “Caleb” and the extended Belk family. Mr. Belk was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Belk; parents, James & Clemmie; sister, Mattie Pace; brothers, Jasper Wilson, Arthur, Eddie, John and Jesse Belk; best friend, Marion “Melvin” Ewing Sr.; many Redwine, Roper and Walton family members which he loved very much. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Mohammed Syed and staff including Ms. Valorie, Gentiva Hospice, McLaren Palliative and Hospice Care, Landmark In-Home Medical Care, Regency at Grand Blanc, neighbors, The Mack, Taylor, Kirkland, Harris and Shelton families, Anthony Williams, Prince of Peace and Everlasting Missionary Baptist Church families.
