Mrs. Ethel Lee Rhodes

RHODES, Mrs. Ethel Lee - Age 78, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Heartland Healthcare-Briarwood. Family hour 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at North Central Church of Christ, 2001 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Rigel Dawson, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Rhodes will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 p.m. - 8 p.m. Tuesday. On December 5, 2015 as a result of God’s intervention our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend received her final reward. Ethel Lee Allen was born on May, 7, 1937 in Frogmore, Louisiana to the late Columbus Sr. and Julia Allen. Ethel Lee better known as “Leal” to her family graduated from Sevier High School in Ferriday, LA. Upon graduation she attended Grambling State and Southern University. She later relocated to Flint, Michigan and began working at the YWCA and later McLaren Reginal Medical Center for 34 years as a physical therapy assistant. Ethel Lee married John W. Rhodes, Sr. on May 13, 1961 and to this union 2 sons were born, Kenneth Tywon and John Wesley, Jr. She found joy in the fact that she had a relationship with God. Ethel Lee was a faithful member of North Central Church of Christ. Mrs. Rhodes was a Past Member of Queen of Sheba Grand Chapter of Eastern Star. She enjoyed many things such as crocheting afghans, sewing, cooking Gumbo, fishing and gardening. The true love of her life was her precious granddaughters, C’era Nicole and A’leyah Sharnese, who she adored. Mrs. Ethel Lee Rhodes leaves to cherish her memory: son, Kenneth (Marlita) Rhodes; granddaughters, C’era and A’leyah; sister, Ernestine Allen of Wildsville, LA; brother, Timothy Allen of Texas; sisters-in-law, Verdis Rhodes of Manhattan, NY and Alantha Payne of Bronx, NY; a host of nieces including special nieces, Vera Henderson and Hilda Freeman; a host of nephews including special nephews, Aaron Hinkston and Dwight Allen; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Saundra Gilliard, Carol Hartley, Shirley Wilson and Water Aerobics Girls, Essie Shankel, the Baber, Hopkins, Richardson, Sumrall, Johnson, and Washington families and co-workers. Mrs. Rhodes was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Rhodes, Sr.; son, John W. Rhodes, Jr.; parents, Columbus, Sr. and Julia Allen; 5 sisters and 2 brothers. The family would like to express special thanks to Hurley Medical Center 9E Unit, Heartland Health Care Center, and Briarwood staff. Indeed recognitions extend greatly to the appreciativeness of Bro.
