Azell Patterson,

PATTERSON, Mr. Azell L., Jr. - Age 67, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 11 a.m. Friday, August 3, 2012 at El Bethel Evangelistic Missionary Baptist Church, G-3248 Mackin Rd., with funeral service commencing at 12Noon. Pastor Danyiel Griffin officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Friday. Mr. Patterson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Azell L. Patterson, Jr. was bonr June 19, 1945 in Blevins, Arkansas, the son of Rev. Azell Patterson Sr. and Lorene McGill-Patterson. Azell was a Sociology graduate of AM&N in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He worked for the State of Michigan, Flint Public Schools and retired from General Motors. Azell was also affiliated with the International F & AM Masons. He served in U.S. Army, earning the Army Commendation and Good Conduct Medal ETS as a Specs, excellent bump and paint man. Azell enjoyed gardening and fishing. Above all his greatest gift was to love, which he generously gave to his family, friends and fellowman. He leaves to cherish his memory: wife of 42 ½ years, Carlene Patterson; 2 sons, Eric Patterson and Phillip (Jamie) Patterson, all of Flint; godsons, Gregory Dumas, Sr. and Gregory Dumas, Jr.; “special sons”, Raymond Wilson, Jr., Antione Garrett, Sr. and Joseph Brown, Jr.; 2 grandchildren, Madelynn Rose and Sawyer Blade Patterson, both of Flint; sister, Floyce Dilworth of Little Rock, AR; brother, Lee Artis (Barbara) Patterson of Blevins, AR; 14 nieces including Bridget (Torrence) McClure of Hope, AR 12 in Michigan and 1 in Ohio; 16 nephews, including 12 in Michigan, Craig Dilworth, Lee Artis Patterson, Jr. of Little Rock, AR, Patrick (Erica) Patterson of Texarkana, TX and Sterling Wyatt Patterson of Blevins, AR; 4 aunts, Sarah Hill of Hope, AR, Gladine Wilson, Louisa Marshall of Blevins, AR and Hazel Burton of Prescott, AR; 2 uncles, Samuel McGill of Otisville, MI and Fred (Ethel) McGill of Blevins, AR; father-in-law, Junior W. Bradley; 7 sisters-in-law; 4 brothers-in-law; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends including Felton Dumas and Theodis Johnson. Mr. Patterson was preceded in death by his parents, Lorene Patterson and Azell Patterson, Jr.; and mother-in-law, Rosie Bradley. The family would like to express special thanks to the Johnson, Dumas and Bradley families and Hurley Medical Center Emergency Staff.
